Senior E/M Designer

SUMMARY: Performs complex mechanical design and electronic packaging functions as specified by customer and/or product requirements. Evaluates and integrates cost effective design, productibility and manufacturing practices into mechanical designs. Works closely with all engineering supporting disciplines to establish product concepts and carry ideas through final product design. Responsible for new proposal data input as required by the Manager of Mechanical Engineering. Keeps a schedule on current projects and work issues as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs original design work after receiving the design goal or problem statement, general method of processing and engineering advice on related theoretical aspects to be taken into account in the design. 2. Supports other mechanical designers and drafters in conceptual designs and the preparation of mechanical drawings. Reviews and approves project documentation, change requests, etc. 3. Performs dimensional tolerance studies or descriptive 2D and 3D geometry analysis necessary to develop engineering drawings or similar documentation. 4. Responsible for all phases of designs from concept through prototype manufacture and production. 5. Supports design reviews and prototype fabrication of equipment. Interfaces with other departments and vendors to achieve design goals. 6. Coordinates with analytical engineer the structural and thermal analysis to support the design. 7. Utilizes individual creativity, applies advanced CAD techniques and knowledge of practical and cost-effective design methods. Dimensioning and tolerancing to ANSY Y14.5M standard. 8. Prepares and maintains project budget/schedule. 9. Product support consists of bill of material preparation, material review board and preparation of EO's. 10. Assists in cost estimates and suppliers contact of designed components. 11. Supports the manufacturing build and qualification testing requirements as needed for mechanical design support. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge of Mil-Specifications and contracting. 3. Strong knowledge of material and hardware selection: including welding, fabrication practices, and machining tolerances to complete a cost-effective design. Familiar with military and commercial standards pertaining to hardware, material and processes 4. Capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously. 5. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required. 6. Experience using 3-D CAD software tools in design function. Mechanical Desktop, Inventor (or equivalent) parametric solid modeling software knowledge in electronics packaging. 7. US citizen. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: 1. High school graduate plus specialized technical training. 2.
