Job Description:

 

Currently we are seeking a qualified Senior Electric Motor/Generator Design Engineer for advanced asynchronous and synchronous electric motors and generators used in electric and hybrid-electric vehicle propulsion traction drive systems, powertrains, on-board power generation systems, and industrial applications.  This position will develop electromagnetic architectures and design prototypes/concepts for component and system opportunities and be responsible for leading new technology development programs and managing project teams (local and remote resources), external technology resources (e.g. universities) and manufacturing partner resources.

 

Responsibilities will include: - Develop and validate new advanced electromagnetic machine architectures and designs for air- and fluid-cooled, 10 – 500kW, 200 – 800V, three- and multiphase AC synchronous and asynchronous (e.g. AC induction, permanent-magnet synchronous, hybrid reluctance) motors and generators for electric and hybrid-electric vehicle traction system and on-board power generation applications.

-                      - Utilize established motor dynamometers, hardware-in-the-loop, and vehicle testing to develop and validate motor performance with advanced power electronic motor drives/converters to optimize system performance including efficiency and torque density over wide speed ranges. - Assume architecture and design roles in implementing advanced electromechanical designs in innovative and compact form factors with advanced thermal transfer using advanced development tools and simulations in a rapid prototyping/commercialization environment. - Develop electric documentation, design techniques, tools, and test and/or development procedures. - Validate thermal and efficiency models. - Work with Drive Control and Power Electronic Design Engineers, Systems Engineers and Manufacturing Partners to review new designs and provide succinct input for electrical, electromagnetic and electromechanical design improvements. All qualified candidates must meet the following requirements: - Master of Electrical Engineering, Electric Machine Design or similar academic background. Ph. D. and/or practical experience preferred. - Development experience with synchronous/asynchronous motors. - Proven track record of innovative design in electromagnetic theory and electromechanical hardware.

-                      - Experience and knowledge of power electronic converter, motor drive, and motor control systems preferred.

-                      - Flux 2D, 3D, Maxwell 2D, 3D, Infolytica, SPEED, and Solid Works design experience is a plus.  - 3 – 5 years of automotive or related engineering, hybrid or electric drive experience, or university experience with Freedom Car, FutureTruck, or Challenge X useful. - Excellent communication, interpersonal, and technical skills along with the drive to function in a small, focused team environment.

 

Compensation:

-    Base salary range: $90 – 120K commensurate with educational background and experience; plus benefits and incentives; relocation assistance possible.
