Senior Field Engineer-Technical Test Support

Position Description

A Senior Field Engineer with the Technical Test Support Team (TTST) within the Mission Support Division will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a myriad of systems and tests. As a SME for EPG, knowledge of testing and will be used during the functions of a contract test lead; technical support functions to other outside customers and test teams within EPG; training of technicians and Field Engineers on tactical equipment, EPG instrumentation software and tools, RF test equipment and more.

The SME within the TTST is responsible for working with the Test Officers and Task Leads ensuring that the customer (TE Directorate) has testing resources (i.e., tools, trained personnel and operationally ready equipment) available and on site to support EPG’s testing mission. The SME duties include but not limited to the following:

1) Assist in the planning processes of testing to ensure all resources are obtained and personnel requirements are available.

2) Act as technical support to test officers, task leads, test operators and technicians for tactical equipment, setup procedures and instrumentation.

3) Manage test personnel and execute testing.

4) Assist in development of testing methodology and staying up to date on the latest technology.

5) Train operators on tactical equipment and instrumentation.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Minimum five years previous experience providing technical expertise in communications-electronics testing, field test execution and test reporting/documentation. An Associate’s degree or two years college-level training is required. Candidate must have functional communication skills and willing to interact, verbally and through written correspondence, with Test Officers, Test Leads, resource supplying contractors and other external actors as may be involved. Knowledge of e-mail, calendaring, database and spreadsheet software. Ability to operate office automation equipment. Must have ability to learn methods and terminology specific to the work assigned and to understand and follow verbal and written instructions associated with approved test plans as well as work independently with little to no supervision. Candidate selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must able to obtain an Interim Security clearance within 30 days of employment date and must have a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to bend, stoop and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Work may require the ability to maneuver in and around tight spaces associated with tactical vehicles. Must be able to work long hours in an outdoor desert environment. Job entails 25-50% TDY.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in RF Propagation, EMI / EMC, RF Testing, Interference Assessments, Tactical Radios & antenna characteristics. Working knowledge of TCP/IP, network design and troubleshooting as well as network engineering practices. CISCO knowledge is a plus. Prior experience as a field engineer/technician in command, control & communications equipment and/or Army tactical communications equipment. Knowledge of Army military systems, subsystems, organizations; support and support systems and ancillary equipment; a detailed knowledge of operating peculiarities and capabilities of equipment being tested; and a working knowledge of computer based instrumentation systems used for collection and management of operational test data is desirable. Working knowledge of EPG software tools ((RICS)2, CTTK-DRA, MANCAT…) is a plus.
