Senior Power Design Engineer

SUMMARY: Senior Power Design Engineer shall be responsible for Design and Development of Electrical Power Systems for Shipboard Applications and design support of other applications. He shall provide power electronics engineering support for design, development, integration, operation and sustaining of electrical components, equipment and systems under minimal supervision. The Senior Power Design Engineer shall participate in all stages of development from design through manufacturing support and system integration. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Support marketing with proposals in area of conceptual designs, work break down structures, schedules and preliminary part's lists. 2. Interpret customer specification to define requirements for power electronics circuit and systems design. 3. Support new programs from conceptual design, through detail design to completion. 4. Write product and test specifications. 5. Provide sustaining engineering on existing products and technical support for fielded equipment. 6. Perform engineering analysis of power electrical circuits, equipment or systems. 7. Ability to work simultaneously on a variety of projects. 8. Senior Power Design Engineer will take directions from Project Engineer or Power Engineering Department Manager. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have design familiarity with SCRs, IGBTs and other power switching devices. 2. Magnetics design and closed control loop design experience, a plus. 3. Must be able to work as a key member of the design team with other Power Design Engineers, Digital and Analog Engineers, System Engineers and Software Engineers. 4. Proven effective communication with Senior Project Management and customer representatives is essential. 5. Circuit analysis applications, PSPICE and MATLAB preferred. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Minimum required is Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.) from a four-year college or university and 5 to 10 years of power design related experience. Master of Science or advanced degree preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
