Job Description:

 

Currently we are seeking a qualified Senior Power Electronics Engineer for power conversion systems, motor drives, energy storage and mobile power generation systems used in electric and hybrid-electric vehicle propulsion and power management systems, and industrial applications.  This position will develop power conversion architectural and design prototypes/concepts in component and system opportunities and be responsible for leading new technology development programs and managing project teams (local and remote resources), as well as external technology resources (e.g. universities) and manufacturing partner resources.

 

Responsibilities will include: - Assume architecture and design roles in implementing power module (intelligent and dumb) and discrete device converter designs in compact form factors with advanced packaging and thermal transfer using development tools and development simulations in a rapid prototyping/commercialization environment. - Develop and validate new advanced, air- and fluid-cooled power electronic converters and systems (10 – 500kW, 200 – 800V) used in DC-DC converters, motor drives and controls for AC induction, permanent-magnet synchronous, and hybrid reluctance electric and hybrid-electric vehicle traction systems, power control units and other subsystems used in electric and hybrid electric vehicles.

-                      - Develop and validate advanced power converters used in advanced mobile, exportable vehicle power generator systems.- Develop electronic documentation, design techniques, tools, and test and/or development procedures. - Validate thermal and efficiency models. - Utilize established motor dynamometers, hardware-in-the-loop, and vehicle testing to validate control hardware and their interfaces to vehicle controls. - Work with Drive Control and Motor Design Engineers, Systems Engineers and Manufacturing Partners to review new designs and provide succinct input for drive and power control unit design improvements. All qualified candidates must meet the following requirements: - Master of Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or similar academic background. Ph. D. and/or practical experience preferred. - Converter, motor drive, control systems development experience with synchronous/asynchronous motors. - Proven track record of innovative design of power electronics hardware.

-                      - Experience in power and control board layout

-                      .- 3 – 5 years of automotive or related engineering, hybrid or electric drive experience, or university experience with Freedom Car, FutureTruck, or Challenge X useful. - Excellent communication, interpersonal, and technical skills along with the drive to function in a small, focused team environment.

 

Compensation:

-    Base salary range: $90 – 120K commensurate with educational background and experience; plus benefits and incentives; relocation assistance  possible.
