Senior Safety and Health Professional (CIH NEEDED) - Department of Energy, Environmental Remediation

Job Title: Senior Safety and Health Professional

 

 

Description: Reporting to the Project Manager, the Senior Safety and Health Professional will provide leadership, vision, strategic and technical planning, and management to the Portage Los Alamos office, specifically during the execution of the Material Disposal Area (MDA) B Removal, Characterization, and Restoration Project at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, as well as on existing and future environmental remediation projects throughout the DOE Complex. MDA B is an inactive subsurface disposal site comprised of shallow pits and trenches that contain approximately 24,000 yd3 of hazardous chemical and radioactive waste. MDA B was operational from 1944 until it closed in 1948. As a member of the senior management team, the successful candidate shall provide senior technical guidance to the project team, shall manage and mentor all H&S project staff, and provide the experience and knowledge required to manage the safety challenges associated with remediation of a mixed-waste landfill.   

 

Requirements: Candidate shall possess current Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification and shall have at least ten (10) years of progressive safety program management experience at Department of Energy (DOE) facilities. At least five (5) years experience shall have been in a supervisory role implementing safety programs for high-hazard environmental remediation projects requiring Level A or B personal protective equipment and sampling and disposition of reactive and shock sensitive hazardous chemicals. Candidate shall have successfully implemented and managed a high-hazard safety program at one major landfill remediation project with a value of $3M or greater. Experience with a broad spectrum of industrial hygiene and safety in environmental remediation, construction, and nuclear facility environments, to include the following: Experience with developing, delivering, and/or managing a corporate or project-specific safety program that is compliant with  DOE requirements such as 10 CFR 851, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926; experience with hazard analysis and control strategies; and experience with activities such as air monitoring and sampling, monitoring of workplace environments, chemical safety, heavy equipment operations, material handling, hoisting and rigging, facility safety, industrial hygiene, and best practices.  Position requires attention to customer service, demonstrated leadership qualities, and the ability to interact effectively with client and project personnel at all levels. Must be results and solution oriented with solid management, communication, and interpersonal skills including ES&H training experience.

 

Desired Skills: Familiarity with and successful implementation of a site safety program at Los Alamos National Laboratory preferred.

 

Education: BS in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related field.

 

Salary: $95 - $115K DOE and DOQ
