Bechtel Civil's  NY office is seeking a structural engineer with at least 5 to 10 years of structural design experience.  Bridge design and/or NYSDOT project experience is preferred.  The engineer must be fluent with structural steel and reinforced concrete design and be willing to take on different tasks simultaneously.  The engineer must be capable of producing design and drawings, including calculations and computer analyses, by him or her self.  The position entails the following responsibilities and requirements:

Produce final designs and details for improvements and rehabilitation to the Gowanus Expressway viaduct structure involving work such as steel and concrete repairs, concrete deck replacement, and structural steel and foundation modifications.
Perform calculations and structural designs as well as ensure accuracy of the design drawings.
Work on conceptual design study for tunnel construction options for the expressway.
Perform structural analysis with computer programs and produce calculations for conceptual design studies, planning, and preliminary design that may lead to final design.
Be capable of investigating the feasibility of proposed concepts, considering constructability and methods of construction for the structural designs.
Produce quantities and cost estimates.

The Engineer should have knowledge and ability to analyze and design according to codes, design criteria and structural theories; have good judgment, and understand methods of general practice in structural design, analysis and detailing.
The Engineer should have good experience in using structural analysis and design programs such as STAAD.
The Engineer should have good ability to transfer structural design and ideas to contract drawings, as well as ability to comprehend existing design and drawings.  The Engineer should work well with designers to produce structural drawings.  Some CADD experience is preferred. Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university required.
Advanced design and calculation structural engineering skills required. Advanced proficiency in written and verbal communication skills required.
