Senior White LED Design Engineer

Job Summary:

 

The LED device design engineer is responsible for developing and characterizing new or improved designs of high brightness LED’s and to support new product introduction efforts in a fast-paced environment.

 

The LED device design engineer will work closely with team members in chip design, process, reliability, and packaging to develop next generation LEDs for the general illumination market meeting cost, performance, yield, and reliability targets.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Design, develop and characterize high efficiency, high power LEDs

· Develop and maintain theoretical understanding of the full optical system, including chip behavior, light extraction design and packaging considerations.

· Support theoretical design by quantitative experimental analysis.  Coordinate designed experiments from epi forwards to packaged devices.

· Determine test conditions and specifications for new products

· Communicate and document theoretical design expectations and experimental results for both technical and non-technical audiences.

 

 

Minimum Qualification Required: (when qualifications include education or equivalent, define equivalent)

· Experience in optical device design, including theoretical and experimental expertise in doped optical materials, optical interfaces, and optical semiconductor materials.

· Experience with LED device characterization such as LIV, far-field, thermal resistance, uniformity, TLM and other aspects of test engineering.

· Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

· Strong in computer skills such as LabVIEW, Matlab, scripting, database applications and statistical analysis

· PhD in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Optics, or equivalent discipline

· 1-3 years relevant product development experience in industry

 

 

Additional Desired Qualification/Experience:

· Demonstrated system-level approach to optical device design

· Demonstrated use of statistical data analysis and Design-of-Experiments techniques

· Experience with LED manufacturing (especially III-Nitride or AlInGaP materials/devices)

· Experience in design of vertical emission semiconductor optical systems and simulation is a plus.
