Strategic Buyer

The Strategic Buyer is responsible for developing and maintaining supplier relationships with local suppliers and supporting both local and global procurement initiatives.

Job description:

· Manage local supplier relationships

o  Create contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted supply of product (local/BU specific needs)

o  Evaluate sourcing options using total cost perspective

· Monitor and drive supplier development and continuous improvement on a local level

· Support Commodity Managers to facilitate global procurement with local suppliers:

o  Bridge differences in local customs and language between Commodity Managers

· Establish procurement agreements with supply base (local) for BU specific requirements

· Understand cost drivers for local, BU specific suppliers and commodities

· Participate in supplier qualification and part certification processes, at the local level, to meet BU requirements

· Support day-to-day BU sourcing requirements

Requirements:

· Ability to match supplier capability to component manufacturing processes

· Estimating manufacturing cycle times and developing product cost models

· Project management experience

· Fluent in local language, understand local culture and customs

· Advanced computer skills

· Effective negotiator

· Process driven

· Strong analytical skills

· Strong relationship building skills

· 5 years purchasing/sourcing

· Manufacturing engineering with emphasis on machining

· Precision machining

· Cost estimating

· Participated in negotiations

· Knowledge of Quality systems and ISO 9000

· Experience in a discrete manufacturing, ERP environment

· Understanding of “Total Cost” (logistics, transportation modes, customs, duties, fixed vs. variable costs…)
