We have a fantastic opportunity for experienced Structural Engineer in our Warrenton, VA office.
REQUIRED: Must be EIT or P.E. registered
*Civil / Structural Engineering degree REQUIRED
*5 years precast design experience REQUIRED
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Engineering: responsible for the preparation of design calculations for a variety of precast structures and/or components using AutoCAD. Design related assignments may include but are not limited the following:
1. Prepare calculations and design summaries for Connections
2. Precast component engineering including handling coordination and analysis
3. Design assistance to assist with sales and marketing departments
4. Engineering design for standards
5. Design for Research and Development of new products and services
6. Assist with designs for plant and/or field repairs
7. Ensure that all designs are clearly presented, legible and effectively communicate the engineer’s design intent
8. Ensure that designs are value engineered and user-friendly for fabrication and installation
9. Checking of erection drawings and piece details for conformance to designs
· General Administrative Responsibilities: responsible for assisting in general administrative tasks. Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
1. File documents and maintain administrative files both physically and electronically
2. General Administrative tasks as required to maintain project flow in department
3. Manage job or task budgets
4. Manage job or task schedules
5. Have thorough knowledge of project estimate

Summary:
Designs major architectural precast projects, including structural engineering calculations, and development of drawings according to contracts and specifications.
Directs CAD draftsmen for the production of detailed project plans and fabrication drawings
If required, manages major projects from project coordination meeting to final completion to insure timely engineering, procurement, manufacturing, delivery and installation. Monitors and controls costs to achieve profitability goals.
Provides structural, pre-cast, design and CAD support to the company.Design:
Designs assigned projects.
Studies contract drawings, documents and specifications.
Prepares a timely submittal design package for approval by customer, and in accordance with contract drawings, documents and specifications, local building codes, accepted industry standards and company design specifications and practices.
Directs CAD operators in the development of drawings in conformity with company standards.
Ensures the technical soundness, integrity and completeness of the whole project. Checks all drawings and documents to assure quality and total accuracy
Performs structural calculations for the project.
Discusses and resolves all design issues in communication with customer, architect and structural designer.
When subcontracting such work, prepares and issues Engineering bid packages, selects engineering contractor or team and negotiates contract. Follows up with engineering design team, provides technical guidance and follows up on technical issues.
Ensures that company design standards and procedures are issued, used and followed.
Maintains schedule of engineering and design to meet project schedule.Engineering:
Provides structural and design engineering expertise and support to the organization.
Provides checking and other technical opinion to other projects as required.
Uses and promotes the use of state of the art design techniques and tools, including advanced AutoCad use and computerized design software.
Supports, develops and implements the use of company design standards and procedures.Project Management:
When assigned, manages major projects from project coordination meeting to final completion to insure timely engineering, procurement, manufacturing, delivery and installation.
Acts as the focal point and liaison person for all communications between the company, customer, engineering and erection contractor.
Keeps company management routinely informed of project work progress, including quality and cost issues, major variances, contract changes, renegotiations or change orders
Follows up on job progress, schedules meetings as required to coordinate activities and maintain project progress.
Keeps updated master file for the project and documents all communications in writing.
Monitors and controls costs to achieve profitability goals.
Coordinates project with plant departments.
Procures resources through company engineering or outside firm to meet design schedule, including checking.
Based on bill of materials, insures timely procurement of all materials for production and installation.
Through detailed follow up, insures that all phases of the schedule are met, and takes immediate and decisive action to correct variances.
Addresses all quality issues with concerned parties. Spots checks and monitors overall quality of all phases of the project.
Negotiates installation, caulking, cleaning and other sub-trade contracts and with advice from the project team selects contractor.
Coordinates erection and other sub-trade contractor work.
Control:
Monitors cost of project to insure that profitability goals are met.
Provides updated project costs to management.
Documents all changes affecting cost, initiates field change orders. Advises Sales of significant changes to contract.
Reports to the Engineering Manager.Qualifications:
Civil/Structural Engineering degree REQUIRED
5 years precast design experience REQUIRED
Familiarity with design codes, practices and PCI standards
Proficient in AutoCad 14 and Microsoft Office suite
