Structural Engineering Consultant

Position Description:

This position will provide independent engineering services to clients, including performing independent technical evaluations of electric power generation projects and facilities. The evaluation of designs for new renewable energy projects including wind turbines and solar power installations will be a key aspect of the assignments. Development of new power plant sites, including site selection activities, EPC specification development, and vendor and contractor evaluation, for renewable and thermal power stations is a critical aspect of the assignments. Travel will include both domestic and international.

Qualifications:

In addition to a BS in Civil/Structural Engineering, the ideal candidate will have an MS in Civil/Structural Engineering, experience in the design of steel and reinforced concrete systems, structures and components, and knowledge of structural dynamics. Excellent technical communication including writing skills is needed for this position. Fluency in a foreign language (prefer Spanish or French) is a plus. Candidates should have a working knowledge and understanding of US structural and building design codes and standards, and current knowledge of structural design and analysis theories and practices. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of project development and construction, preferably through experience in the industry. A general understanding of power station operations and performance reviews, including knowledge of utility scale renewable energy systems and equipment, is a plus. Working knowledge of international design codes and standards is also considered important, but not essential, for the successful candidate.
