Thin Film Optics Program Manager

 

Assume a leadership role in expansion of the current research thrusts of the Thin Film Optics organization, providing technical direction in optical design, optical systems modeling and test. Perform as program manager on current and future Thin Film Optics programs. Capable of functioning as Principal Investigator on selected R&D programs. Act as proposal manager when required, to generate, coordinate and oversee technical and cost inputs for proposal

 

Primary Responsibilities:


Assume a leadership role in expansion of the current research thrusts of the Thin Film Optics organization, providing technical direction in optical design, optical systems modeling and test

Capable of functioning as Principal Investigator on selected R&D programs

Creative, energetic individual who is a competent thin film designer, with complementary test, business development and technical management skills

Responsible for developing, marketing and managing a wide range of new thin film R&D and production programs for government and commercial markets

Involved in the expansion and follow-on of current programs

As proposal manager, generate technical and cost inputs as well as coordinate/oversee other department’s inputs to insure all are compliant to the RFP and submitted in accordance with customer requirements

Technical consultant to customer and internal teams to ensure proposal, specification requirements, and deliverables are aligned with business goals

Ensure program technical, schedule and cost objectives are met/exceeded

Support the negotiation of contracts/subcontracts and contractual changes

Communicate with customers and company management regarding development progress, operational decisions, and contract clarification

Develop solutions to program problems, and direct work of staff assigned to programs from various departments

Generate, analyze, and summarize program metrics for trends and causes

Prepare and deliver customer briefings and presentations.

Develop new business and expand product line

Requires active or ability to get a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance

 

Skills/Experience:


Experience in both engineering development and production for Government programs in areas of optical or electro-optical materials and components

2+ years experience in thin film device and coating design research and development and production program technology

2+ years experience in engineering project management and program management

A proven track record in program development and execution

Proven teamwork, leadership and interpersonal skills

Able to recommend optical testing methods appropriate to verify predicted performance of optical designs; experience in optical measurement is desired

Successful experience working closely with technical professionals

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Able to manage multiple and competing priorities

Proven ability to execute, manage, and produce quality products that meet technical, cost, and schedule goals

Experience in requirements analysis, schedule development, action item management, requirement change management and overall development and progress metrics

Skilled in preparing proposals, estimates, technical documents, progress/status reports and other contract deliverable items

Experience in evaluating proposals, estimates, technical documents, and related contract deliverable items

Experience in preparing and presenting customer and/or management level briefings

Experience with DoD and program management for government contracts

 

Education:

Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering or Material Science is required

MS or PhD strongly preferred
