Assistant Manager, Development Communications

Boston Symphony Orchestra - Assistant Manager, Development Communications:

 

 

 

Now in its 127th season, the Boston Symphony Orchestra gave its inaugural concert on October 22, 1881, and has continued to uphold the vision of its founder, the businessman, philanthropist, Civil War veteran, and amateur musician Henry Lee Higginson, for well over a century.

 

 

Responsibilities:

·         Assists the Director of Development Communications in developing and producing materials that increase the understanding and support of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s mission and financial goals.

 

·         Writes and edits Development materials, and coordinates the production of both internal and external communications materials in support of the Development Office’s ongoing fundraising, outreach, and institutional positioning efforts.

 

·         Responsible for project management of printed, electronic, and other communications projects.

 

·         Assists in drafting and copyediting Development materials to ensure consistent quality and high standards of external communications. 

 

·         Assists with grant proposals and applications as needed.  

 

·         Responsible for smooth, effective communication with outside vendors including communications consultants, designers, mail houses, and printers. 

 

·         Provides logistical and scheduling support for photo shoots. 

 

·         Researches and supplies archival materials as needed. 

 

·         Works closely with the Marketing, Press, and Publication Offices to coordinate BSO communications strategies and production schedules.  

 

·         With Director of Development Communications, develops style guide for Development office and monitors design and language standards.

 

·         Manages regular updating of Development sections of the BSO website. 

 

·         Creates and maintains Development photography library. 

 

·         Provides administrative support in maintaining Development Communications files and tracking Development Communications budget. Occasional nights and weekends required. 

 

·         Occasional out of office assignments. 

 

 

Qualifications:

·         College degree and two or more years experience in communications-related field.

 

·         Exceptional verbal and written communications skills; strong creative writing as well as copyediting skills. Project management skills in publications, print production, direct mail; ability to work with variety of constituencies and to manage details.

 

·         Understanding of creative design process. 

 

·         Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and to work calmly under pressure of deadlines. 

 

·         Strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and flexibility in finding solutions to problems. 

 

·         Advanced computer skills and familiarity with digital file formats (.eps, .tif images; .pdf files). 

 

·         Knowledge of photo editing and design programs (Photoshop, Quark) preferred.  Experience with direct mail a plus.
