Our client is a mid-sized non-profit organization based in midtown Manhattan that been supporting arts, education and cultural events throughout the city for the past 100 years is looking to add a Controller to their existing team. This position is primarily responsible for the development, process and coordination of all aspects of financial accounting, reporting and analysis.
Responsibilities
• Implementing and maintaining systems, policies and procedures that reflect best practices in nonprofit accounting.
• Assisting appropriate volunteer committees in the development of internal controls, as well as the successful implementation of those controls.
• Managing all cash transactions/cash receipts and disbursements (accounts receivable and accounts payable systems), including membership billing, payment of annual dues, payroll, contributions and bank accounts.
• Maintaining accurate hard copy and electronic financial records for all governmental, auditing and internal purposes. Implementing a regular backup of those records to ensure the protection of all files. Storing all records securely.
• Providing financial analysis in order to develop budgets; fiscal controls; cash flow reports; cost review and allocations; and financial planning.
• Producing regular cash projections/forecast reports for the Treasurer, Board of Managers, volunteers and staff.
• Implementing the monthly closing process, and preparing timely financial statements for presentation to the Treasurer, Board of Managers and chief executive.
• Providing all necessary information, documents, files and records to the NYJL’s independent accountants so that they can conduct the annual audit, the filing of the NYJL’s 990, and other required documents.
• Supervising the finance staff. Developing, implementing, and evaluating training initiatives to ensure successful staff development.
• Overseeing payroll process and administering all employee benefit programs according to ERISA regulations.
• Maintaining all insurance coverage, including timely payment
• Other responsibilities as assigned.
Ideal candidate will have experience with cash flow analysis, management, monitoring, reconciling bank statements, monthly investment tracking, accounting and reporting.
