Development Director - make your mark bringing strategic focus to funding vigorous new vision

This position offers you the opportunity to make a significant impact on our organization as well as make your mark in the not-for-profit world. You will join a small group of passionate and proven professionals proactively leading a locally successful institution to national prominence, redefining what it means to be a nautical museum. While we have effective fund development processes in place (we've reached 40% of goal in our current capital campaign, for example), we'll look to you to leverage your expertise and experience to bring a new level of strategic focus to this area.

We're looking for an entrepreneurial professional who not only can identify the opportunities, but also has the drive to seize them; we're not paying off huge past debts -- we're building an entirely new facility with a fresh and vital vision. To be a good fit for this position, you will have significant experience and demonstrated success in fund development, including experience with membership-based organizations and corporate giving. You'll also need excellent relationship-building skills and a willingness to roll up your sleeves to achieve your goals in a growing organization.

The Newport Harbor Nautical Museum is dedicated to preserving and promoting the nautical heritage of Newport Harbor, southern California, and the eastern Pacific. You'll join us at a very exciting time: over the past two years we have to up-graded our staff to enhance professionalism and ensure a high degree of enthusiasm for the mission; we acquired the Fun Zone, a local landmark since the mid 1930s, including docks on Newport Bay; and on that property we are building new facilities and creating a destination that engages visitors and touches their emotions so that they will return again and again, bringing friends and family.
