Sr. Network Engineer, Exchange / Directory Services

Position Description:

This position is located in Chandler, AZ. Provides advanced-level design work, implementation, documentation, and troubleshooting for Directory Services. Responsible for technical management of advanced networking hardware and circuitry. Provides network services support at an advanced level to application developers, end users and other operational personnel. Provides group design and product recommendations and configurations. Resolves client business network problems through research, network installation and customization, network administration and network management support.The Sr. Exchange Systems Engineer maintains, supports and troubleshoots the messaging environment while administering security and actively participating in all application upgrades. The Sr. Engineer also works as a member of a cross-functional, integrated application support team that provides team leadership in coordinating the work with other system engineers. Training and mentoring other system engineers is an essential function of this position.Operations:Plans, schedules and performs proactive maintenance, including software upgrades and patch installation which included working in the Data Center and some light lifting.Remains current on vendors’ standard support schedules and release cycles.Leads migrations of messaging enhancements and modifications performed by system engineers.Ensures adherence to policies and procedures established by EIS.Performs application tuning including monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing performance.Production Support:Works closely with other system engineers, to gain a thorough understanding of the architecture of the messaging environment.Serves as an escalation point for bugs and other issues within IT where multiple IT disciplines may be necessary for resolution.Provides 24x7 on call production support.Develops and maintains an operation manual for ongoing support procedures.Leads other system engineers in maintaining user security for all responsible environments and instances in compliance with access security policies and procedures.Administrative:Works with other system engineers to continually improve application support levels and Fox’s internal change control policies and procedures.Attends and facilitates formal and informal meetings which may require some offsite travel.Participates as Subject Matter Expert (SME) as required for design reviews and technology and tool selection.Reports activities through time tracking system.Participates in the change control process.Communicates plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis.Trains and mentors system engineers.Adheres to department standards, policies, procedures and industry best practices.Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of Exchange 2000 and or Exchange 2003.Good understanding of Active Directory and DNS.Good knowledge of Microsoft Sharepoint.Good knowledge of Windows 2003 Server.Good knowledge of NetIQ.Advanced Knowledge of HP (Compaq) servers.Working knowledge of EMC SAN connectivity Working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office.Good knowledge of Mail Marshal and similar message routing systems.Good knowledge of Symantec Corporate Edition Anti-Virus.Skills:Strong ability to troubleshoot Exchange server issues.Strong verbal and written communication (documentation) a must.Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, clients and other IT personnel.Demonstrated ability to train others.Ability to write and present effective materials, including presentations, documentation and status reporting.Experience:Minimum 7 years IT experience in an Infrastructure environment supporting a large enterprise messaging system required.4 years of dedicated work experience with Exchange 2000/2003 in a large corporate environment (2000+ employees).Experience administering international systems preferred Responsibilities: 1. Local & Wide Area Directory Support• Provides 3rd level escalation for Directory Services outages and troubleshooting.• Performs hardware and software maintenance.• Configures and installs Domain Controllers.• Interfaces with vendors, and NewsCorp partners to install and troubleshoot Directory Services problems.• Produces and interprets Authentication performance trends.• Performs Authentication capacity planning.2. Directory Design• Consults with customers to identify Directory Services requirements.• Prepares and updates Directory Services documentation.• Designs and configures Directory Services implementation.• Assesses new and relevant Directory Services technologies.3. Design Reviews• Maintains design requirements documentation with accurate EIS information. • Participates as a Subject Matter Expert in architectural and design reviews. • Makes recommendations for project change as needed to improve functionality, performance, enterprise impacts, and standards compliance. 4. Administration• Communicates plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis. • Reports activities through time tracking system.• Mentors junior Directory Services engineers.• Participates in project and activity tracking processes.• Participates in the change control process.• Continuously updates and improves skills and networking knowledge through training and self-study.5. Production Support• Provides 24x7 on call production support.• Serves as an escalation point for Directory Services issues within IT.6. Departmental Responsibilities• Works closely with Information Protection to establish and audit system and directory service security• Works closely with file server & database engineers, applications developers and engineers to provide a secure application environment.• 7. Other Duties As Required Job Requirements:Education:Bachelor's degree requiredCertification/Licenses: • Cisco Certified Internetwork Engineer (CCIE) preferred.Knowledge: • Strong knowledge of Novell and Microsoft Operating Systems. • Strong knowledge of Novell Directory Services and Active Directory • Strong knowledge of current IT infrastructure and Directory Services trends.• Good understanding of network security and management frameworks.Skills:• Strong project coordination skills.• Strong relationship management and negotiation skills.• Strong verbal and written communication skills.• Strong analytical skills.• Strong ability to interpret impact of technology choices.Experience:• Minimum 7 years in IT technical Services.• Minimum 5 years Microsoft Active Directory experience.• 3 years customer interaction.
