Traffic Manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A High School diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in Business, or a related field, or four (4) years of management experience in traffic or related fields is required. Must also have a minimum of two (2) years of related experience, including supervisory experience. The incumbent should be knowledgeable of parking and traffic patterns at McCormick Place or Navy Pier, as well as locations of downtown hotels, bus routes and private shuttle parking areas. Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with heavy public contact. Must have working knowledge of computers, including Excel and Word. Proven excellent problem solving skills. Must be willing and able to work a varied schedule, including days, nights, weekends and holidays. Must possess a valid Drivers License.
DUTIES: Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Transportation, interacts with management and events regarding traffic control. Works all locations and shifts as determined by the needs of any event. Coordinates with parking contractor(s) on the duties of parking lot attendants. Supervises and schedules traffic aides. Contacts events several months in advance to assist in the development of a traffic plan. Trains traffic aides, designs traffic patterns, and provides relief for traffic aides. Manages all taxi, bus, limousine, valet and other traffic on the property. May serve on the Mayor’s Traffic Management Task Force as well as other traffic related committees. Works with city agencies, (Department of Consumer Services, CDOT, OEMC, CPD), to maintain and exchange information concerning traffic issues and coordinates traffic plans with city agencies. Prepares files on all events for the Security Operations Plan, identifying problems, weather conditions, personnel needs, and parking totals. Performs other work-related duties as assigned to support MPEA goals and its customers.
