Accountant III

Perform a variety of routine and non-routine accounting operations functions in support of financial reporting for the division in accordance with department policies and procedures.

1. Process the variable annuity market day trade activity and record transactions to the general ledger.
2. Input NAV/Dividend data for each mutual fund and upload to the administration system.
3. Prepare and distribute Accumulated Unit Value (“AUV”) data to outside reporting agencies.
4. Prepare and submit wire transfer cash funding for each market day.
5. Reconcile, Life Pro, the Variable Annuity Reporting System (“VARS”) and the General Ledger.
6. Review various accounting reports, reconcile and resolve issues.
7. Prepare and post daily trade account activity journal entry to the General Ledger.
8. Communicate cash funding totals to various areas of the company.
9. Reconcile VARS to confirmation statements from the mutual fund companies and resolve reconciling differences.
10. Prepare various daily and monthly reports for management review.
11. Process monthly, annual and semi-annual financial closing report.
12. Prepare Separate Account “green books” at year-end which includes maintaining FIFO lists, unit progressions and Schedule D data.
13. Prepare, reconcile and distribute standard and non-standard mutual fund return data (monthly).
14. Record and deposit reimbursement fees from the mutual fund companies.
15. Prepare GAAP Separate Account audit and Statement of Additional Information (“SAI”), working with internal audit to document processes, procedures and data.
16. Work directly with external auditors on the mutual fund company confirmations, Separate Account Audits and SAI.
17. Complete the return data section and AUV section for each variable annuity prospectus.
18. Update and test changes to VARS.
Assist in LifePRO variable modification testing and new variable product testing. Position will develop into becoming the accounting project lead for variable modifications and new variable products.

Associated Duties:
1. Provide back up to other cash accounting functions within the unit.
2. Assist with special projects as directed.
3. Participate in department and company processes.

 Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance.
 3+ years of accounting experience in the insurance industry; some experience with banking or cash reconciliation activity helpful.
 Good working knowledge of department procedures and company products.
 Proficient understanding of variable annuities.
 Knowledge of software used (Crystal Reports, EAS General Ledger, Microsoft Excel and Word)
 Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
 Strong communication skills.
 Ability to work effectively within time constraints and exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks.
 Expected travel – 5%
