Accounting Analyst, Liquidity & Collateral Portfolio
Department Description: The Treasury Finance Group is a division of CFO that is responsible for analysis of balance sheet performance metrics and trends, distribution of the firm’s cost of funding as well as analysis of collateral utilization. The group works closely with Treasury and Business Management on setting guidelines and levels of balance sheet usage, including analysis on funding and competitor comparisons. The group interacts with Treasury, Business Unit Finance and Business Management as well as Corporate Accounting. In addition to balance sheet analysis, the group also oversees the firm's daily and month-end balance sheet process.Brief Description: Merrill Lynch seeks a qualified candidate for an Accounting Analyst in Liquidity & Collateral Portfolio within the Treasury Finance Group. The position will be at the Assistant Vice President level. Job Responsibilities: Provide financial control of Treasury’s $30 billion Liquidity & Collateral Portfolio of MBS, ABS and Agency securities hedged with interest rate swaps. Use of the SUMMIT system to account for and control all assets and swap positions, and Oracle general ledger to account for the legal books. The role will work closely with Treasury front office personnel (traders), Treasury debt administration (operations), Treasury finance groups, Accounting Policy, and senior managers. Responsibilities include: Daily P/L reporting, p/l explain, cash reconciliations, transactional analysis and funding estimates. Legal accounting including preparation, reconciliation and analysis of financial statements, origination of all manual entries and development of automated accounting to be generated from SUMMIT system. External and regulatory reporting associated with the portfolio including FAS 115. Assignment will require the eventual understanding of AFS accounting and FAS133. Qualifications:3-5 yrs experience in business unit finance role. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Strong accounting knowledge and analytical abilities. Familiarity with Available for Sale accounting and MBS products preferred, but not required. Experience in a financial control function is ideal. Strong PC skills in areas of Access, Excel, Outlook, Word, etc. Articulate and self motivated. Knowledge of SUMMIT system a plus.Merrill Lynch is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
