Associate - Research

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Associate is responsible, under direct supervision, for data collection, statistical studies, and research in an assigned industry group and individual companies and their securities. The Associate is developing the techniques and skill necessary for investment analysis and research of securities. The Associate reports to a Senior Managing Director, Managing Director or Senior Analyst, Senior Vice President. DUTIES: 1. Actively working to gain knowledge of an assigned industry group. Performs general research duties for senior team members. Monitors specific companies and informs analysts of important developments. 2. May participate in meetings with clients and with the trading and sales force. May be responsible for filling information requests from clients, sales force and general public regarding individual securities or industry groups. May create and maintain contact databases. 3. May prepare portions of draft research reports and briefs. May be responsible for preparation and maintenance of financial modeling spreadsheets. May prepare client meeting notes, document earnings calls and prepare executive summaries of new filings. 4. May be responsible for administrative support including: scheduling meetings, travel arrangements, creating and maintaining filing systems and databases, phone coverage, faxing, copying and sending mass mailings. 5. Participates in firm activities, committees or task forces and recruiting efforts as well as external/industry related events and organizations as appropriate. ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: 1. General knowledge of specific industry preferred, though not required. Good analytical skill and understanding of relevant financial, mathematical and accounting techniques. 2. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to express ideas effectively and fluently. Comfortable with client interaction. Ability to write clearly and concisely. 3. Ability to organize time well and set proper priorities. 4. Series 7 license. 5. Knowledge of spreadsheets, presentation software and the Internet. Proficiency in MS Office preferred. 6.
