Business Development Coordinator

The Company:  Financial Strategies Institute (FSI) is a leading money management firm located in the Fort Union office complex at about 7200 South in Salt Lake City (Midvale).  The senior partners have been recognized nationally and locally with quotes, interviews and articles in major financial publications such as the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, as well as being regular national TV guests on CNBC.  This is your opportunity to work in one of the fastest-growing industries in the country – financial planning.  FSI is a successful, 9-person firm headed by three senior partners who are all Certified Financial Planners™.  At Financial Strategies Institute, our mission is to bring to our clients the highest quality investment and financial planning advice, as well as deliver implementation and service that exceeds expectations. 

 

Position Summary:  Plan, organize and implement the growth of Financial Strategies Institute (FSI), reporting directly to the 3 senior partners/advisors.  You will be on the phone much of the time talking with key businesses leaders and media representatives, as well as with our existing clients, prospects, and seminar students.

 

Background: FSI is a healthy, growing, and profitable firm whose objective is to offer the highest level of financial and investment advice to its clients.  Up until now, all marketing, seminars and public relations tasks have been performed by the senior partners themselves.  With our growth, we find that we are unable to continue to run this end of our business and still maintain the quality of our financial advice and the attention we need to give to our existing clients.  This new position will take over all business development responsibilities.

 

Job Description:  You will have many varied duties, and you must be able to prioritize and organize your time to accomplish the most important tasks.  Some of your duties will include:

 

1)       Set up two lunch meetings (or breakfasts/dinners) each week for each of the 3 senior partners, to meet with people who are key to our growth, including:

a)       Other professionals such as CPAs, Estate Planning Attorneys, or Elderlaw Attorneys in our area, focusing on those who are serving our current clients

b)       Reporters for local papers and TV and radio where we offer the senior partners as a resource for them for their stories and articles.  We have been quoted in most of the major national financial publications, as well as been interviewed on TV a number of times.  

c)       Influential Level-A clients who may introduce us to other potential clients, or to their employer or other contacts.

2)       Maintain contact with our connections at national and local media, such as CNBC television, KSL-TV, Fox 13, etc. reminding them that we are here and willing to be a resource for them.

3)       Follow up on the many seminars that we conduct.  After each session, many attendees request a call to schedule an appointment, make up a missed session, or refer our services to a friend. 

4)       Follow up on referrals given to us by our existing clients, to invite each new prospect to a seminar or a complimentary meeting with one of the advisors. 

5)       Work with each senior partner/advisor to develop a unique niche market for that advisor.  Each advisor should have a different niche, such as a specific industry, a major company, an occupation, an alma mater, etc.  We have not organized our marketing efforts in this way yet…but we want to.

6)       Call to set up “Lunch & Learn” seminars at our clients’ workplaces or offices.  Seminars are one of our major strengths and one of the things we are best known for.  You will work mainly with Human Resource Directors at leading companies across the Wasatch front. 

7)       Maintain the database of all prospects in their respective categories, including updating records, sending appropriate mailings, planning campaigns for them, and maintaining regular phone contact with each of them.

8)       Contact existing clients to see if they have potential needs, set up a meeting or register them for another seminar.

Requirements:  You will have had sufficient experience in duties similar to those above, so that you are comfortable organizing and executing these campaigns and making the large number of telephone calls involved.  You should have excellent telephone skills, and a general knowledge of business and professional practices.  You should be self-motivated and love dealing with the public representing a professional practice.

  

Compensation:  Salary will range from $30,000 to 60,000 depending on experience and skills.  Benefits include a 401k plan with an Employer match, generous paid vacation and other time off.  Because our office is small, we don’t have enough employees to be eligible to offer group health insurance coverage.
