This leader is also responsible for pulling together all of the inputs into the rating process and ensuring rate adequacy and accuracy. In addition, he/she serves as a key partner with Underwriting and Sales management. Actively participates in product development discussions and provide actuarial expertise to support strategic decisions including but not limited to Health Care Reform, small group. Key Accountabilities Lead the process for coordinating rating inputs, developing rates, complete rate filings and compiling exhibits for commercial and dental products. Manage actuarial projects relating to product and rating issues, coordinating with several different disciplines and staff. Lead and direct the analysis of administrative expenses and overall premium retention. Manage and develop staff of 3 direct reports Participate in cross-functional workgroups representing the Actuarial and Analytical Department on special projects. Provide effective technical and non-technical support to internal and external customers and management in meeting corporate goals and making strategic decisions. Provide actuarial expertise to various departments such as Product Management, UW, and Sales on various initiatives. Support efforts to continually improve data capabilities and quality of department analysis and reporting Qualifications Ability to develop staff in consideration of short and long term needs of department and individuals. Ability to lead and manage the works of others Solid business understanding and sufficient knowledge to develop big picture Ability to represent the Actuarial Department on cross functional workgroups and provide broad expertise Adaptable to new and varied responsibilities Team oriented/collaborative Takes initiative, motivated Creative problem solver - able to assess problems, develop creative solutions and see solutions to completion.
