Job Description:
The Controller, plans, organizes, directs, and controls the accounting and control function of the company, ensures company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles, reports operational results, and develops effective systems and processes.
Primary Responsibilities: Forecasts short-range and long-range cash requirements and obligations, as a basis for maintaining adequate funds. Manages key assets of the business through internal control, internal auditing, and ensuring proper insurance coverage. Executes cash disbursements for payment of company expenditures in accordance with disbursement policies. Maintains the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.Monitors credit and collection applications. Approves terms above a predetermined dollar amount. Oversee daily operations of the finance department.Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.Provides other departments with relevant information required by them to carry out their assigned responsibilities. Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives.Keeps the CFO informed of the company's performance and provides advice on all financial matters. Recommends and implements techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices.Consults with senior leadership and operations teams to make recommendations for improving the effectiveness of policy or practices.Develops and presents to the CFO matters requiring his or her decision. Furnishes internal reports, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient, and furnishes external reports as necessary.
Additional ResponsibilitiesRecruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff. Assures that qualified personnel are selected and that orientation and on-the-job training programs are conducted and effective.Assures that the duties, responsibilities, and authority of each job are clearly defined, effective, and communicated to incumbents. Monitors performance of direct reports. Provides prompt and objective coaching and counseling. Reviews direct reports and approves performance appraisals initiated by direct reports.Ensures that the company's management principles, policies, and programs are consistently practiced. Assures that effective communications are maintained within areas of responsibility. Where appropriate, informs employees as to plans and progress. Conducts employee discussion sessions at regular and frequent intervals. Assures that the necessary coordination within the area of responsibility is taking place and that coordination of the assigned area with those of other company or corporate units is taking place. Resolves problems involving coordination.Acts within scope of authority and consistent with company and corporate objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices.Keeps abreast of current trends and practices in field of expertise. Other special activities and responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements:Must have a B.S. degree in Accounting or Finance A minimum of eight (8) years' experience ideally gained through increasingly responsible management positions within Finance. Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems, well-developed financial analysis capabilities, and demonstrated ability to manage microcomputer operations and applications. Sound administrative skills. Well-developed management skills, principles and people. Proven ability to recruit, train, and motivate personnel in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth.
