Database Systems Administrator

 

 

Acadian Asset Management LLC is a Boston-headquartered investment management firm with wholly owned affiliates located in Singapore and London. As of January 31, 2008, the firm managed approximately US$75 billion on behalf of major pension funds, endowments, foundations, governments and other investors based in the U.S. and abroad.

 

Position Overview:

 

The primary responsibility of the Database Systems Administrator is to ensure the availability and optimization of our production, development, and QA databases. The DSA will assist in reviewing and deploying development SQL code as well as maintain the refreshing of Dev and QA environments.

 Other duties include documentation, database application support and troubleshooting, as well as small development tasks focused on fetching and displaying production data for various internal groups. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Database Administration:

·  Ensure that Acadian’s databases are available to end users at all times.

·  Responsible for both database and query performance optimization, automated database processes including replication, Data Transformation Services (DTS) and SSIS. 

·  Maintain ongoing performance monitoring and error reporting systems as well as efficient problem resolution. DSA will carry a pager and will join the on-call DSA rotation to support off-hours database troubleshooting.

 

 

DR/MSSQL Backups:

·  Responsible for database disaster recovery of the entire database environment which includes managing a timely SQL backup schedule to protect the integrity of the information/data stored as well as off site replication.

·  DSA is responsible for documenting the backup processes and documenting the regular testing all of the DR process.

 

 

Database Development:

 Assist software developers with database development projects.  Responsible for reviewing development code and ensuring established coding standards are applied consistently.

T-SQL performance and optimization skills are required. Proficient SQL Profiler skills are required.

 

 

Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

·  A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field preferred.

·  Must possess a strong Database Administration background with at least 3-5 years of closely related experience with MSSQL 2000 and MSSQL 2005 (MCDBA a plus) in addition to scripting experience.

·  A thorough understanding of database hardware design, including disk subsystems, required. Experience with MSSQL databases in a SAN environment preferred.

·  Candidates must have a strong technical background, good communication skills, project management skills, and the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment. 

·  Should be able to lift up to 75 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.
