Director Of Business Development
Morningstar’s Equity Data Services Business seeks an enthusiastic, results-driven Director Of Business Development with a strategic mindset and savvy interpersonal interaction and negotiation skills. In this role, you will help drive sales of the Licensed Equity Data product line through pricing and contract negotiations. You will attend new client meetings to ensure a clear understanding of the project scope and timeframes, and will work with the sales, relationship management, and implementation teams to ensure contractual obligations are being met. This position also serves as a consultant to our sales representatives and will join them on visits to prospective clients to explain pricing, contract, and production processes. In addition, you will also train new team members on the contract and pricing process.
You will share the responsibility of maintaining and growing product revenues with the rest of the team. We need an individual who has the ability to investigate and understand how our clients use our data from both a business and technical perspective and who will use this knowledge to develop product plans and strategies that will contribute to a compelling sales story and initiate product improvements. In this position, you will also be intimately involved in data sales marketing efforts. This involves developing knowledge of the competitive landscape and identifying target markets and sales strategies to support strategic product content decisions. You will work with marketing resources to create presale product brochures, presentation materials, and other marketing materials. You will also be responsible in maintaining some key accounts to ensure renewal and act on upsell opportunities.
You will also maintain and promote client relationships through effective communication, successful project management, and timely follow up. Thus, the ideal candidate will have effective communication skills—oral, written and presentation; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; significant experience with marketing planning and execution across various types of media; and experience with market research, including survey creation and results interpretation. In addition, strong client service and relationship-building skills, as well as demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail are vital for this position.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years work experience in investment research services or a related industry, including product marketing and product management experience. A bachelor’s degree is required; MBA/ CFA is a plus.
