FINANCIAL ANALYST

Hourly pay range:  $22.01 to $26.77 (2007 rates)

Financial Analysts perform a variety of routine professional accounting or budgeting duties for an assigned function such as fund accounting and analysis, payroll, budget analysis, investments and grants, and special projects accounting.  Specific duties include analyzing and processing financial data, and preparing and analyzing a variety of financial documents.

Minimum Qualifications:  A bachelor’s degree preferably in accounting, finance, business or related field
One year of professional accounting or budgeting experience, preferably in governmental or regulatory accounting/budgeting

NOTE:  Experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

program; however the degree must be completed prior to appointment.

Highly Desired:  CPA, MBA or MPA

Examination Process: Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a written exam. Applicants must pass all portions of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligible list for interview and hiring consideration.

Hiring Requirements:  City of Tacoma residency may be required at time of appointment.  It is not necessary to be a resident to apply.  There is no residency requirement for current permanent or probationary City employees.

Appointment is subject to passing a background check.  This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between The City of Tacoma and Local 483. An employee in this position will be required to join the union within 30 days of hire.
