Graphic Design Specialist

Job Description:

The Graphic Design Specialist is responsible for design and production of printed marketing materials with occasional support to electronic media. Position uses computer software to alter files and designs, build pieces from templates and design original print and HTML work. Position ensures that marketing materials graphically reinforce key Sallie Mae and various subsidiaries’ brand, product and service messages. Working within the Creative Services team, this position participates in all phases of collateral development from concept development through design, image modification, pre-print file preparation, production and print purchasing.

 

•  Primary duty of performing office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer or the employer’s customers; and

•  Primary duty includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance

 

Minimum Requirements:Some college coursework in graphic design, art, or closely related field

Minimum of 3+ years working experience in the graphic design and production of print and electronic materials, preferably within a Corporate Communications/Marketing environment

Willingness to pursue additional training and education in graphic design/desktop publishing technology as required

Must have excellent communication, organization and negotiation skills enabling individual to define the needs of internal and external clients and translate them to visual solutions

High attention to detail with the ability to work on many projects simultaneously. Speed is essential

Must be fluent in a broad range of design styles and all design-related PC software programs (e.g. Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or Freehand, Adobe InDesign); familiarity with MSOffice and Groupwise also required.  Knowledge of Macintosh-supported programs (Quark Express), multimedia programs and web authoring programs a plus

Must be fluent in Adobe Acrobat Professional conversion and editing program for use in digital printing, electronic communications and online documentation

Must have a general knowledge of offset printing, and the translation from electronic art to the printed page

Print buying and negotiation skills a plus

General understanding of traditional and digital photography required

Preferred Requirements:

Industry-related certifications

Some knowledge of pre-press printing

Project management experience

Understanding of general principles of education finance industry
