Java Developer

Great Lakes Educational Loan Services is seeking Java application developers with varying levels of experience.  We have multiple positions available and are seeking entry level candidates as well as seasoned developers.  Positions are open in our Madison, WI and Eau Claire, WI offices.

The e-Commerce development team develops web-based portal applications for our customers and business partners.  The team is responsible for the user experience of Great Lakes internal and external facing applications, including http://www.mygreatlakes.com./ and http://www.greatlakesguaranty.org/. 

The Loan Origination, Approval and Disbursement software development team is primarily responsible for the development of applications that provide the business processes to create loans and deliver funds to students.  The Java Developer will work with a team to enhance and support our internal and external web-based applications. 

Software development is conducted in accordance with the J2EE standard using IBM’s WAS and WSAD and RAD development environment.  Additional technologies utilized by the team include DB2, HTML, XML and MQ Series.  The successful candidates will be responsible for developing, enhancing and supporting our web-based applications.  Specific responsibilities include the analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation, maintenance and support of these complex business systems.

Qualifications

 

Required Skills:

· Knowledge equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

· Strong development skills with Java, JavaScript, JSP, JSP tag libraries, SQL, and HTML.

· Experience with Java frameworks such as Spring and Struts.

· Working knowledge of the set of services, API’s, and protocols that provide functionality for developing multi-tiered, distributed applications within the J2EE environment.

· Experience using XML to enable the definition, transmission, validation, and interpretation of data between applications and between organizations.

· Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver assignments on time, on budget, and with the required functionality.

· Comfortable using a disciplined development methodology and adhering to development best practices, standards and procedures.

· Leadership skills to successfully identify, plan, and complete multiple assignments concurrently.

· Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

 

Desired Skills:

· Java development experience in a business environment.

· Experience developing and maintaining financial business systems.

· Experience building and maintaining J2EE applications using WSAD or RAD development environment, Eclipse, and WebSphere Application Server.

· Software development experience using SQL in a DB2/UDB database environment.

· Familiarity with IBM’s WebSphere MQ.

· Experience with formal testing techniques and using automated testing tools in a distributed environment.

· Java Certification

· Mainframe development experience with COBOL, JCL, TSO, and other mainframe based utilities.
