LAN Support Tech - Senior

Role Summary:

 

The Client Computing Solutions Design and Implementation team is accountable for the design and implementation of the technology associated with the personal computing environment at Sun Life Financial. As a member of this team you will be working in a team environment to build and support a secure, robust and reliable personal computing infrastructure that meets our clients’ needs. You will also work on projects to design and build supportable solutions to our clients’ challenges and problems.

As the successful candidate for this role, your knowledge of PC technology, troubleshooting skills and analysis techniques will enable you to design and develop technology solutions for client computing platforms. Your experience working on projects will help you provide decisive management, consulting and leadership in medium to large scale projects.

Main Accountabilities:

- Develop, support, document and manage Windows XP deployment processes and standards across several desktop and laptop models

- Work on infrastructure and business driven projects to deliver PC solutions

- Perform integration testing of new software and hardware solutions and updates

- Prepare and deploy updates and security patches to operating systems, drivers, and core applications

- Pro-actively identify and resolve team and/or individual technology knowledge gaps

- Participate in the team oncall rotation to provide 24/7 PC infrastructure support

- Communicate frequently with end users, client service peers, and managers; client interaction is key to managing expectations, assessing needs, and customizing services

- Provide level 3 PC support, interacting with various technical and support team members on networking, server, mobile connectivity, security, and user support requirements

- Close working relationship with other Solutions Design and Implementation Engineering, Operational Support and Application Development teams

Competencies:

- Experience working on medium to large technology projects

- Strong technical background including experience with PC hardware and Windows O/S platforms

- Strong understanding of Active Directory and Group Policy objects

- Working knowledge of Systems Management Server

- Solid written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and an orientation toward providing excellent service

- Strong investigative skills with respect to new and future technology solutions

- Experience in desktop management and operating system support

- Strong troubleshooting and research skills to apply technology solutions to business needs

Assets:

- General knowledge of networking, servers, and data security concepts

- Understanding of the ITIL model and how it relates to client computing and solutions design
