Print and Insert Operator

Responsibilities This position is responsible for supporting the internal printing needs for the Firm. The operator supports printing needs on three high speed Xerox printing systems. Department print volumes range from 3,000,000 to 5,500,000 impressions per month. The operator is responsible for maintaining production on these systems and must be able to diagnose printing problems as they relate to quality in order to maintain operational efficiency. The operator is also responsible for working with the vendor service team to resolve equipment problems. The operator is expected to coordinate with the business user on print job submission and set clear service level expectations. The operator will either accept electronic or hard copy print jobs and import the data into the Xerox server. The operator is then responsible to convert the data into a printable format. Most jobs require operator intervention to enhance the image format. Tasks include embedding tabs, cropping the documents, merging data, image shifting and adjusting image quality prior to submitting the print job. The operator may recommend set up changes that enhance printing or reduce cost to the firm. The operator may provide a proof of the print job to the end user and confirm acceptance prior to production. Upon job completion, the majority of the printed output requires bindery support. The operator is responsible for performing these functions and offering options to the end user. The operator must manage multiple print jobs across all three printing devices simultaneously to meet production needs and goals. In addition, the operator is responsible to operate the two-color off-set press. The operator must be able to use plate making software in order to layout print jobs on a PC based system. The operator is also required to burn and etch poly plates and load plates on the press to set up for the printing job. Full set up includes loading the correct PMS ink to match job requirements, loading the proper ratio of blanket wash solution, calibrating roller pressure for ink coverage and having the ability to identify and correct print quality issues. Requirements Education Requirements: A High School Diploma is required; College or Technical School preferred. Completion of the Advanced Copier Training sponsored by Xerox is expected within first six months of employment. Minimum Years of Experience Required: 2 to 3 years in a related field. Depth of knowledge: Each operator must have a good working knowledge of all varieties of print file extensions and know how to import and convert print file types. They must possess good skills in working with multiple software applications including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Distiller, Photoshop and Xerox Freeflow.
