Senior Buyer

Lead and/or participate on cross-functional procurement teams chartered to maximize the value of purchased goods and services as required by the Corporation in accordance with customer specifications. Lead all aspects of the procurement process for projects of moderate complexity including, but not limited to, the following: pre-qualification of potential suppliers, proposal solicitation, proposal evaluation including moderate level pricing analysis, negotiation of medium dollar/medium complexity contracts/agreements with minimal supervision, purchase of required goods/services for the Corporation to enhance Mellon’s competitive advantage/reduce total cost, and prepare purchase orders to reflect contract award and requisition fulfillment, ongoing monitoring, measurement, and management of supplier performance. Manage supplier relationships to maximize the value associated with related contracts. Identify potential global procurement standardization, consolidation, and leverage opportunities. Identify and implement opportunities to integrate additional affiliates/subsidiaries under the corporate umbrella of contracts, and thereby improve corporate leverage. Identify procurement process improvements (e.g., purchasing card, reverse auction, on-line ordering) for projects/commodities under areas of responsibility.

 

Bachelor’s degree preferably in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) certification is encouraged. Minimum 1-3 years of procurement experience or relevant commodities/services expertise. Basic to moderate level of contract negotiation experience. Working knowledge of various types of pricing structures as well as associated contract terms, conditions, and legal ramifications. General understanding of total cost analysis and value chain mapping principles. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Broad based knowledge of procurement principles and practices. Strong analytical skills. Strong problem solving skills. Strong project management skills. Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
