Senior Financial Officer - Mortgage

SunTrust Bank has a current opportunity for a Senior Financial Officer (SFO) supporting SunTrust Mortgage.  This position is located in the Corporate Office for SunTrust Mortgage (“STM”) in Richmond, Virginia.  The Senior Financial Officer (SFO) will serve as a financial consultant and trusted advisor to the Mortgage Line of Business CEO and senior management team.  Represents STI to the line of business and provides critical and current information to Corporate; facilitates healthy bi-directional dialogue between Corporate and the LOB. The SFO will be responsible for leading a team of finance professionals in providing comprehensive financial strategies, advise and expertise to the Mortgage LOB.  Managing and developing an 11 person finance unit. Providing financial management support; including strategic and tactical business decision support; translating data into actionable financial information in order to drive improved performance. Providing planning and forecasting based on key economic, statistical, and financial information. Supporting the development of annual LOB sales/production/profitability goals to ensure consistency with the financial plan. Preparing meaningful financial reports which enable LOB and STI Corporate management to measure performance relative to goals and prior year. Presenting and clearly articulating the financial results of STM and the various initiatives and strategies to LOB Management, Corporate Finance and Executive Management. Analyzing and interpreting financial results, production results, credit quality data, and other driver based information. Developing and evaluating key cost reduction and performance enhancement initiatives/strategies and metrics; partnering with line of business to implement. Understanding mortgage specific accounting interpretations, operations, and controls (e.g., mortgage servicing rights, hedge accounting, fair value measurement, securitizations, etc.), in order to position analysis and business initiatives in the appropriate context; maintain strong relationship with Mortgage Controller, who reports to STI Controller. Managing and/or participating in various corporate and line of business initiatives and projects of varying degrees of complexity. SunTrust is seeking candidates with a degree in Finance.  CPA, MBA and other financial certifications a plus.  Candidate must have proven financial management experience; minimum of 10 years relevant experience. Excellent analytical skills. Knowledge of the mortgage industry, its products, and the drivers of profitability and performance. Ability to interpret financial and sales information and their underlying drivers – familiarity with Mortgage accounting  Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.  Ability to distill detail information into a few relevant points for senior management. Ability to interpret standard reports into relevant performance enhancement information.  Ability to recognize and resolve data which may appear in conflict.
