Senior Java/J2EE Developer

The Virginia Retirement System is looking to engage a full-time senior level web application developer to help them deliver new online functionality to their members, retirees and employers.  The incumbent will have the opportunity to be involved with an extensive modernization program that is currently in progress to replace most of VRS' business applications over the next 4-5 years.



Responsibilities include requirements analysis, design, development, testing, and support.  The majority of the work pertains to benefits related systems.  The web development team has very specific objectives focused on understanding the agency's business goals and deploying well-designed and high-performing applications to get the job done.  VRS has embraced a "self-service" business model to address the changing needs of a large customer base, and is committed to continuing expanding and enhancing the services we offer online.  We need robust technology and top-drawer technology professionals to get us there.

Must be able to:
-  Apply systems documentation techniques and interpret
  technical design documents;
-  Demonstrate considerable experience designing and
  developing complex applications in an n-Tier, secure
  online environment, using Java/J2EE.
-  Provide IS support through maintenance, enhancements
  and troubleshooting of the agency's strategic web
  applications servicing a large online user community.

Preference will be given to candidates who have knowledge and experience with:
- Systems Development Life Cycle, or similar methodology.
- RDBMS, EntireX Communicator, Struts, Hibernate, EJB,
JBoss, and the myEclipse IDE.
- JBoss Application Server (4.0) in a clustered environment.
- Object oriented analysis and design
- Financial and/or benefits applications 
- Experience with software testing, especially unit,
  systems and integration testing.



Prefer degree in computer science or equivalent
combination of education and/or experience.
