Senior Staff Accountant

By joining our team as a senior accountant, you will be exposed to the energetic and fast paced financial services industry with a firm renowned for its product knowledge and expertise. As one of three accountants on our Florida team, you will prepare monthly financial statements as well as the general ledger and journal entries for numerous companies for which our Florida office is responsible. Acting autonomously, you will be responsible for all of the financials for the companies to which you are assigned as well as gathering the information you need from any source point within the company to put them together. You will also collaborate with our home office financial and tax accounting teams and collaborate with them on a frequent basis as new accounting pronouncements are made public, as the firm enters into new business areas, or on an as needed basis. Furthermore, you will liaise with external auditors as needed to assist them with our annual firm-wide audits for the companies for which you are responsible.As you delve into these projects, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the organizational structure of the companies and the inter-company transactions that are occurring between and within them. You will verify all inter-company balances on a monthly basis and prepare monthly and ad-hoc reports as requested by senior managers or by external auditors. Occasional travel to our headquarters will be required and will facilitate your ongoing communications and information gathering processes. Essential Functions Prepare monthly financial statements using an audit approach for self-review of items on the balance sheet; gather all the information needed to prepare their financials, including: obtaining information from banks (or other third parties) and various detail from internal sources Analyze information/correspondence from the home office accounting department Prepare journal entries from support statements, pay bills, and reconcile bank accounts General Ledger preparation Interface with external auditors as well as home office financial and tax accountants as needed Gain an in-depth understanding of the organizational structure of the companies he/she does the accounting for and the types of inter-company transactions between them, including the recording of equity income Required/Preferred Qualifications Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience, including preparation of financial statements, required; experience with a public accounting firm, financial statement consolidation preferred Bachelors degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred Exhibition of a high energy level and capability of making certain decisions independent of management influence Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, required Ability to be flexible in dealing with others and to work autonomously with little supervision Capability of handling multiple tasks while remaining focused on job objectives Must be detail oriented and willing to learn a new business, capable of understanding basic (legal) inter-company agreements, and willing to ask questions Strong desire to learn about financial products and how business strategies effect financial statements necessary Ability to create and drive innovative processes and approaches to problems in an ever growing and complex business environment; Instinctively seek ways to improve efficiency Must be committed to being part of a team environment which emphasizes customer service and responsiveness to both internal and external parties Occasional travel is required Experience utilizing Great Plains preferred Financial Statement Consolidations, loan entries and depreciation experience a plus Some travel is required (i.e. quarterly visits to Bala) * Apply Salary/Benefits At SIG, our employees are our most valued assets.
