Job CategoryIT/Software Development Job Location US-TX-San Antonio StatusFull Time Position description This position may be located in San Antonio, TX or Irvine, CA.This position is a Senior Sybase DBA to manage databases that support Capital Group's institutional and individual investment systems. Responsibilities include designing databases, planning database configuration and installation, maintaining databases, managing database security, building database backup and recovery routines, monitoring database activities, conducting performance monitoring and tuning, establishing infrastructure procedures and guidelines, and providing consultation to application developers. The candidate is expected to provide 24x7 Production Support.The successful candidate must be knowledgeable and conversant in database and computer technology and highly capable in soft skills. Examples of these soft skills include excellent verbal and written communication at the level appropriate for the audience, time management skills, preparing presentation and training materials, meeting facilitation, and management of project timelines, efforts, and milestones for which he/she is the Point Of Contact (POC).QualificationsMinimum Required Skills and Experience: Minimum of 7 years experience in database administration. Minimum of 4 years experience with Sybase database administration in an enterprise UNIX environment. Experience administering Sybase 12.5.x required, Sybase 15 highly preferred. Extensive experience in database design, performance monitoring and tuning, capacity planning, database backup and recovery, SQL statement tuning, and Unix shell scripting. Experience with database compliance, security, and auditing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Capable of supporting and implementing technology projects as a facilitator and knowledge expert. Ability to create and maintain positive and professional business relationships with both internal associates and external customers and vendors. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment, lead peers to decisions, identify issues, and prepare solutions. Demonstrated experience managing new technology evaluations, project management, and vendor selections. Proficient at time and priority management.Desired Skills and Experience: Experience upgrading from Sybase 12.5 to 15. Sybase Replication Server, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server, Storage types DBArtisan, Autosys, and ERWIN. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field.
