Software Systems Specialist

The Software Systems Specialist participates in the design, implementation, integration and support of various Wintel distributed systems and ancillary products, managing projects end to end. S/he works with users and management to analyze user hardware and software needs. S/he installs, configures and supports hardware including; servers, SANs, NAS devices and other peripheral hardware.  S/he also designs, codes, implements and supports infrastructure software to provide solutions and enhancements to support applications and operating systems. S/he coordinates changes to hardware and software configurations while keeping down time to a minimum.

 

Primary responsibilities include:

 

*Project management for new or upgraded infrastructure.

Windows server and Back office  deployment, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, documentation and support

*Active Directory domain administration

*Configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting and support of EMC Clarion SAN.

*Configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting and support of backup systems including;  Veritas Netbackup 5.1/6.x Backup Exec, TSM and ArcServe

*Configuration and administration of various monitoring/ management systems including: NetIQ, Bindview and HP Insight Manager

*Configuration and implementation for FTP jobs  and PGP Encryption schemes

*OS vulnerability and AV patching and reporting

*Participation in development, deployment and support of new technologies including; virtual servers and Altiris

*Infrastructure liaison to line of business application development and support groups

*Partnering with central corporate IT groups

 

Requirements:

6-8 years related experience required. Job holder must have a solid understanding of the overall software architecture and infrastructure components listed above and be able to rapidly develop a working knowledge of the company's technology practices, standards and procedures as well as project management process.

 

S/he must have prior experience with producing detail-level functional requirement documentation as well as detailed project plans.  S/he must also be experienced with coordinating all parties affected by putting new systems into production. S/he must be experienced at addressing a variety of technical (hardware, software or application) problems. S/he must also be customer-service oriented and have effective oral and written communication skills.  Knowledge of HP server hardware, Citrix Metaframe, MS SQL and VMWare is beneficial. 

 

Job holder must be an experienced problem solver and project manager who thinks creatively about solutions and adapts easily to changing priorities. B.S. or B.A. or equivalent work experience required. Microsoft M.C.S.E. certification is a plus.  The ability to work independently, communicate effectively and manage multiple tasks in this fast-paced and service-oriented environment is a must.

 

Please Note:  Position is based in Everett, MA location. Regular and ongoing support to downtown Boston clients is required. Easily accessible via MBTA-Orange Line.
