Sr. Data Modeler

TheEnterprise Information Architect performs structured data requirementsanalysis and data modeling in support of application development in thelines of business supported by American Express Technologies.  This position can either be in Salt Lake City, Utah or in Phoenix, Arizona.

Duties and responsibilities:
1.Serve as a member of a development team to provide business datarequirements analysis services, producing logical data models using amainstream modelling (ERStudio, Erwin etc) tool to fully document andmaintain models.
2. Utilize AET standards for data naming, structuring and documentation.
3.Ensure the business metadata definitions of all data attributes andentities in a given data model are documented in the mainstreammodelling (ERStudio, Erwin etc) tool to meet AET standards.
4. Use the mainstream modelling (ERStudio, Erwin etc) tool to produce the first cut physical data model.
5.Ensure the mainstream modelling (ERStudio, Erwin etc) tool version ofthe first cut physical data model includes business definitions of thefields (columns) and records (tables) generated by the tool.
6.Provide full hand over of the logical data model and computer-generatedphysical data model to the application DBA for the data base build work.
7.After application work is completed, and the DBA is working on creatingthe physical data base, register the mainstream modelling (ERStudio,Erwin etc) logical model with the Portfolio Data Architect for thePortfolio in which the application project is working.
8. Work aspart of a team of Data Management professionals supporting a Portfolioof development projects both regional and global in scope.
9. ApplyAET work practices to enable application project teams to produce datastructures that fully meet application needs for accurate, timely, andconsistent data that fully meets its intended purposes.
10. Conductspeer reviews of completed data models and plans to ensure quality andintegrity from data capture through usage and archiving

Required Qualifications & Skills and experience required:
Strongly preferred:
• Must have a minimum of 8 year’s solid experience working as an application data modeler and/or business analyst where the majority of time was spent analysing data requirements and producing data models.
• Understanding of related development project roles, e.g. Business Analyst, DBA.
• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Business
Essential:
• Detail-oriented analyst, with a demonstrated ability to produce complete and accurate data models using a modern data modelling tool.
• Ability to work co-operatively as part of a team as well as independently, under own initiative.
• Experience of working independently on logical data models and development projects.
• Ability to plan, scope and provide estimates for work effort, producing quality deliverables on time and in budget.
• Understanding of the full development project lifecycle and a project lifecycle methodology e.g. SSADM
• Experience of mainstream modelling tools to produce and maintain fully documented data models.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
