Technical Database Lead/Manager for financial institution in Jersey City, NJ

Financial institution is looking for a Technical Database Manager for their site in Jersey City.  Prior managerial experiece is preferred but not a necessity as this is a hands-on position.  Aptitude and willingness to learn are essential.  Candidate must be able to communicate at a professional level both orally and written.  Person must have experience doing cost/benefit analyses.  This is for someone who is a senior level DBA with some lead/management experience.



Job Summary:

Manage, maintain, and responsible for the optimal performance of the firm’s relational database systems (RDBMS).  Responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing standards, policies and procedures that ensure the security of the company’s data assets and the continuing availability of the company’s databases.  Manage the firm’s software license agreements with database vendors.  Operate as the company’s primary IT liaison with third party data vendors and data providers.  Recommend and implement database related tools and future direction of the firm’s database platform(s).  Responsible for researching, implementing and communicating database management industry best practices. Lead and manage IT projects.  Allocate tasks and manage workload of subordinates while developing the IT organization’s technical and professional skills.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:Insuring the firm’s data assets are: available for usage by applications and business clients; recoverable in the advent of system failure; and, are secure from possible breach.Design, develop and manage the data delivery and receipt processes with third party vendors.Designing and developing database and system solutions.Developing staff to deliver high-quality solutions in a repeatable manner. Delegating assignments to staff, as needed, while optimizing resource allocation.Performing system and process related cost/benefit analysis and making directional and implementation recommendations based upon these analyses.Performing various IT budget and other strategic analyses as directed by the CIO.

Minimum Requirements:4 to 6 years database development and/or database management experience.B.S. in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline.Microsoft SQL-server and related software tool experience.Demonstrated ability to quickly understand business goals and strategies and translate them into tangible tactical efforts.Project management experience, including the understanding of various PM theories & methodologies.

Skills and Training:Superior written and oral communication skills.Ability to mentor and develop staff and peers.SQL-server development and management technical skills.Ability to collaborate and communicate with technical and non-technical personnel.
