WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? This position can be filled at either the Underwriting Consultant or the Sr. Underwriter level, depending on experience. Classify mortality risks in a sound, objective and consistent manner by applying company guidelines and philosophies with consideration for company profitability and marketplace needs. Proficiency in medical and financial underwriting and product knowledge is required along with an in-depth understanding of life insurance industry practices. The Underwriting Consultant’s actions and decisions, through the risk selection process, significantly impact the company’s overall financial success. Handling and approval authority expectations are $2,500,000 standard and $1,250,000 substandard, or based upon management discretion. Review life insurance applications and provide careful analysis of supporting data to determine insurability including large, complex cases Maintain excellent quality standards as determined by periodic audits of casework and provide timely servicethrough attaining above average productivity standards as determined by marketplace Develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external customers Ability to nurture relationships in demanding situations Effectively involve marketing, legal, compliance and other departments on challenging cases Stay current on changing medical and financial planning trends Present ideas and recommendations and participate in projects Apply underwriting procedures and guidelines independently and, where appropriate, be proactive in recommending options Adhere to regulatory requirementsWHAT IS THE COMPENSATION OPPORTUNITY?

This position is part of the Individual Life Underwriting team, located in either our Maple Grove, MN, Woodbury, MN, or our Simsbury, CT facility. We are also open to tele-commuting for this role.
The individual life insurance team offers a broad product portfolio of variable universal life, universal life, whole life, and term insurance. Our products provide liquidity for estate taxes, income replacement for families, protection and tax-preferred benefits for small businesses, and more. Individual Life's products are distributed through a wide network of national and regional broker-dealer organizations, banks, and independent financial advisors, as well as through independent life and property-casualty agents and Woodbury Financial Services, a subsidiary retail broker-dealer.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS?Four-year college degree with attainment of either the FLMI, CLU or FALU designation and a minimum of five to seven years of life insurance underwriting experience with at least two of those years as a senior underwriter; or,High school education with attainment of two designations to include the AALU designation and either the FLMI, FALU or CLU designation and a minimum of seven to nine years of life insurance underwriting experience with at least two of those years as a senior underwriter.
