Position Description
The Underwriting Assistant has the first encounter with every new customer, thus the ideal candidate plays an important role in helping establish a customer’s positive first impression of EquityKeyTM. The Underwriting Assistant interviews customers to garner critical information used to complete the initial application. Once the application is taken, the Underwriting Assistant compiles required documents to support the case underwriting. These documents include life insurance carrier forms, medical records, and internal underwriting forms. In addition, the Underwriting Assistant is responsible for completing quality reviews of external documents such as the application packages submitted by life insurance agents. Once a case file is complete, the Underwriting Assistant analyzes the facts related to the customer’s insurability and the subject real estate and makes an initial underwriting decision on the case. The Underwriting Assistant is the customer’s primary contact and he/she is responsible for keeping the customer updated during the underwriting process.
Candidate Profile
Since the customer’s first interaction with EquityKeyTM will be with Underwriting Assistant, the ideal candidate must be comfortable speaking with customers over the phone, while demonstrating a courteous and patient demeanor. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to establish instant rapport with customers while garnering critical information to complete the program application. The ideal candidate should have an inherent inquisitiveness when processing customer responses to questions, exercising discernment whether to ask additional clarifying questions to determine customer eligibility. Disqualifying a customer early in the process prevents a case file from going through the entire process only to be disqualified on the backend. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, having the ability to multi-task and work on several difference cases at the same time.
Minimum Requirements:
• Possesses a four-year undergraduate degree.
• More than three years insurance underwriting experience. Experience underwriting life insurance is a strong preference.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is a strong preference.
• Previous experience working with senior citizens is a strong preference.
• Strong organizational skills and detail-orientation.
• Strong interpersonal relationship skills and influencing skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple cases and projects.
• Must be able to operate independently and with minimal supervision.
• Proficient PC skills in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word).
