Responsible for the leadership and management of the emerging banking operations within the Union Federal Savings Bank (UFSB) and its parent company The First Marblehead Corporation (FMC) the leading provider of financial solutions for college students. These operations include, but are not limited to, online banking, bill payment and other payment types, personal financial management products and services, account applications and fulfillment. Key responsibilities include working collaboratively as a member of the UFSB management team with FMC senior management to create strategy, set direction, design work processes, manage banking operations, and provide leadership to a continuously developing staff. This position analyzes, devises and applies new systems and procedures to increase efficiency and profitability. Supervisory Responsibility Banking operations staffs in Providence, RI and Medford, MA. Essential Job Functions* Responsible for short and long term planning, design, implementation, and monitoring of banking operations for all external and internal banking customers, including; students, schools, business partners, and internal FMC and banking departments. Work collaboratively with UFSB and FMC management to integrate new products into the operational functions along with current products and services. Design, implement and/or adapt operational processes to accommodate new products/services. Work closely with FMC operations departments, external vendors and service providers to identify and implement necessary workflows/processes to support customer needs. Ensure that the operations manager/supervisor and staff deliver or exceed expected levels of service/quality at all times to all customers through the using a balanced scorecard approach. Directly handle complex and escalated customer service issues. Responsible for business planning and project management for major initiatives within banking operations. Work closely with UFSB Senior Management to insure that operations initiatives are closely aligned with FMC's corporate goals and mission. Leverage analytics to refine performance expectations, calibrate goals and incentives and rigorously track, control and report results. Ensure controls are in place and all industry compliance requirements are met with regard to operations, workflows, and management of staff within the departments. Work with UFSB and FMC Compliance teams to hold regular audits of operations. Create/foster within the staff a culture of passionate commitment to customer service, teamwork and integrity through empowerment, continuous improvement/development, regular performance management reviews, feedback and goal setting. Along with the Business Continuity area, create, implement, and test a disaster recovery plan that outlines procedures and responsibilities of key UFSB and FMC management and staff to notify the appropriate parties and allow resumption of key operational functions in the event of an extended disaster. Manage banking operations to maximize operational efficiency within the guidelines and principles of our business strategy. Develop and implement department budget. Operate efficiently within established budget and perform a monthly review of department budget and take action to remain on target. Keep abreast of industry developments and evaluate products, software, and systems to make certain that we have a competitive operational advantage. Act as an ambassador and advocate for the bank in all internal and external setting Skills/Requirements 10+ years of operations experience in the banking industry. 5+ years of experience in operations/production environment. Financial services or banking preferred. Strong knowledge of retail bank, products, services, systems and regulations Experience researching and implementing a broad range of bank products including deposit/checking/saving/credit/home equity/mortgage/insurance. Possess overall business, technical, and cross-functional savvy to solve complex problems and make timely decisions with an ability to understand key financial and performance metrics. Sound business judgment as evidenced by the ability to set priorities and plans and drive results. The ability and passion for creating/supporting leading-edge and innovative capabilities. Demonstrated ability and passion to manage to a superior customer experience. Proven experience in leading and participating in cross-functional teams. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate and champion change and translate broad strategies into clear objectives and practical action plans for direct reports as appropriate.
