VP, Attorney with a Real Estate Principal Focus

Basic Purpose:

Eaton Vance is seeking an experienced real estate attorney to join its in-house legal department to support the growth of its real estate investment management business, and the growth of other investment management businesses.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Oversight of drafting of documents prepared by outside attorneys, and review of.  Such documents.  Examples include Purchase and Sale Agreements, Leases, Lease Amendments, Management and Leasing Agreements, Property Service Agreements, Loan documents, etc.

2. Assist in negotiation of such documents with counterparties, through advising Real Estate Investment Group (REIG) managers.

3. Advise REIG managers on legal matters associated with an existing portfolio of more than $5 billion of real estate assets.  Examples include assisting in processing and negotiating insurance claims, enforcing lease provisions with respect to capital improvement projects, advising ADA compliance, and counseling managers during the wind-down of joint ventures. 

4. Occasional drafting of minor documents e.g. promissory notes.

5. Assisting members of the Real Estate Investment Group as requested.

6. Other projects outside of Real Estate as needed.

 

Job Requirements:

1. J.D., bar membership and excellent academic record required.

2. Minimum of five years of experience in commercial real estate law.

3. Must be organized and have strong attention to detail, with good business judgment and negotiation skills.

4. Ability to work responsively and independently.

5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

6. A team player, grounded in an ethic of stewardship and intent on achieving excellence in a dynamic environment.
