Vice President, Corporate Development

Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) is the media/entertainment unit of Sony Corporation of America, the US arm of Japanese electronics giant Sony. SPE's movie unit, Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, produced the 2004 hit Spider Man 2, which earned $41 million on its opening day, beating the former opening day record set by the original Spider-Man ($39 million) in 2002. Also under the SPE umbrella are operations devoted to TV (Sony Pictures Television), DVD and home video (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment), and digital production (Sony Pictures Digital).  Games - including PlayStation 2 game console and software.Music - including Sony Music Entertainment, which recently united with BMG.Consumer Electronics - including computers and peripherals, digital cameras and camcorders, portable audio and recordable/storage media.

 

Currently we are seeking a Vice-President, Corporate Development. This position will be located in Culver City, CA (Los Angeles). Responsibilities include:

 Evaluating investment opportunities, structuring corporate transactions and financing, driving the development of SPE's overall strategic plan and coordinating and integrating the strategic initiatives of each of SPE's divisions into Sony growth plans.

 

In addition:

 

Evaluate Investment Opportunities:

 Must have ability to review business plans and presentations and provide recommendations as to each company's financial opportunity and strategic fit with SPE's objectives. Requires an understanding of the media industry, emerging technology and business models, and an understanding of SPE's corporate and divisional strategic objectives.

 

Structure Corporate Transactions:

 Must have ability to work with internal and external legal counsel in structuring transactions including corporate investments, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and financing.

 

Corporate and Divisional Strategies:

 Must play a role in the ongoing dialogue at senior levels regarding the long-term strategic planning process, as well as in specific conversations about the strategic value of individual projects. This could include preparation of presentation materials, participation in high-level meetings, and on internal committees.

 

Administration:

 Must oversee administrative functions including departmental budgets, personnel contracts, facilities issues, expense authorizations, etc.

 

Qualifications include:

 MBA. 7+ plus years of transactional or consulting experience with a leading professional services firm.Team-leading experience in a project management environment. Significant media industry experience at a broad-based media company is preferred.
