SYSCO’s Recipe for Success
What is it about SYSCO that has led us to 20 consecutive years of uninterrupted growth? What is our recipe for success? As the largest foodservice distributor in North America, we set the standard for excellence in our industry. Revenue and earnings at SYSCO have risen every year since 1976, and over the last few years, when many companies’ stocks were taking a beating on Wall Street, SYSCO’s stock price reached an all-time high in our 35-year history as a public company.
Our company and our stock have continually performed throughout the years. Why? Because we don’t aim to be the biggest, we aim to be the best. Here are a few good reasons we enjoy the success we do and why we should continue to grow and succeed as we move forward.
ü SYSCO was founded on integrity, fairness and perseverance, qualities that continue to shape our company today.
ü Our pioneering technological initiatives allow SYSCO operating companies to manage food storage and order-filling processes and track meaningful information about customers’ needs.
ü Meals prepared away from home have become ingrained in today’s fast-paced lifestyles.
ü Foodservice operators depend on SYSCO’s products and services to help develop signature dishes, authenticate restaurant themes and create cost-effective menus.
ü Although we’re the largest company in the industry, we still have only a 14% market share of a @$200 billion industry.
ü SYSCO supplies about one-third of the foodservice establishments in our marketplace, yet we have only about one-third of each customer’s business. That leaves a lot of room for growth. Our biggest
growth opportunity is with customers we already have.
ü We have a mission – to help our customers succeed – and if we achieve that mission, we too will succeed.
ü Customers are our top priority. Customer loyalty and satisfaction are so important we created C.A.R.E.S. – Customers Are Really Everything to SYSCO. Words we live and work by. We have a strong ability to clearly define our role with our customers and to quickly move to fulfill their individual needs.
ü SYSCO is committed to an open environment and autonomy in local market decisions.
ü We are able to succeed when other companies are faltering because we are geographically diverse, customer diverse, and product diverse.
ü We continue to look for opportunities, filling geographic gaps through our meat, produce and hospitality strategies and looking for other niche opportunities, as well as broadline partners.
ü SYSCO averages two acquisitions per year in a quest to grow and diversify our business.
ü Our fold-out strategy offers many benefits, such as reducing delivery expenses, better positioning our company to respond to our customers’ needs, and enhancing growth opportunities in the original location as well as the fold-out location. We continue to build fold-outs and have twelve broadline fold-out centers up and running.
ü The SYSCO Brand of quality products, backed by 180 quality assurance technicians checking everything from product to soil, sets the standard for product excellence in our industry.
ü The www.sysco.com website has innovative iCares links to online services for customers such as financial support, marketing and advertising advice and training services. SYSCO’s iCares initiative provides value-added products that go well beyond food by partnering with other premier companies in the market.
ü The state-of-the-art e-Sysco ordering system puts our company head and shoulders above the rest.
Why is SYSCO so successful? Actually, there are over 46,000 reasons – 46,000 SYSCO associates who provide great intellectual capability and an abundance of resources such as innovation, creativity, honesty, dependability, service excellence and customer satisfaction.
