Divisional Controller
VICOM is the dessert manufacturing division of the VICORP Restaurants, Inc. Our primary focus is supplying the highest quality deserts to our Bakers Square and Village Inn Restaurants. VICOM operates three production plants (Oak Forest, IL, Chaska, MN and Santa Fe Springs, CA). These plants supply fresh pies to our Bakers Square restaurants, and frozen pies and bases, topped & baked at the restaurants, to both Corporate and franchised Village Inn restaurants.
VICOM also supports an Outside Sales customer base selling products under its J. Horner’s label and private label brands. Products we produce can now be found in over 2,000 food service and 7,000 retail locations across the nation. Collectively, VICOM plants will produce approximately 16 million pies this year.
We have an immediate need for a Divisional Controller to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for directing and overseeing competitive financial analysis and statistical studies to support VICOM’s business objectives. This position reports to the SVP, VICOM Product & Distribution.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop and prepare comprehensive annual operations plan and forecasts [annual and periodic] by facility with VICOM roll-up; develop estimates and long range financial and operational forecasts and trend comparisons. Responsible for determining customer profitability by facility and by product SKU for all internal and external customers in order to provide financial analysis and guidance on future financial direction of division.Review and analyze VICOM period financial results by facility and consolidated with a focal point on all unplanned and extraordinary differences; provide period rolling forecasts of revenues, costs and profits based upon current trends for VICOM. Report on progress toward approved business objectives.Provide direction to the Plant Accountant and direct cost accounting functions ensuring quality, timeliness and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Provide day-to-day financial operations direction to each facility. Provide direction to VICOM’s Plant Engineer with the goal of production efficiencies and cost reductions in labor, waste, maintenance and other areas of operations. Develop detailed and complex financial analysis to determine if proposed engineering plans provide the anticipated results.
6. Responsible for determining product pricing for all newly developed products for both the restaurants (transfer pricing) and outside sales customers with a breakdown of each of the major components and of the profitability of the proposed product(s). Responsible for determining annual and periodic prices increases/decreases to all outside sales customers to ensure the divisions profitability. Assist SVP in negotiating, selecting, and implementing all third-party distribution requirements necessary to support fresh-pie delivery to Bakers Square Restaurants. Responsible for determining freight rates to all VICOM outside sales customers.Performs ad hoc financial analysis in order to recommend future financial direction on operational concerns or current trends and issues for the division.Oversee the function of and provides direction to VICOM division management on information systems including hardware, software, and supporting functions that will be cost effective and provide appropriate accounting and operational information to end users.Oversee the Customer Service department, which includes processing of outside sales orders in SAP and verification of accurate billing through Accounts Receivable for all outside sales accounts; implement control and measures to ensure compliance with GAAP. Represent division at period Credit Committee meetings to facilitate collections of division’s receivables.Develop and coordinate the capital expenditure requests for the division. Ensure appropriate project controls on approved projects.Stay abreast of trends and developments in the control function for application in division. Recommend changes in policies and procedures as appropriate.Oversee, review and make recommendations on production schedules with the designated planners in each facility to assure uninterrupted flow of quality product to all customers.Directly supervises employees in the Financial Operations Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in accordance with VICORP’s human resources policies and organization philosophy.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIREDCertified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferredValid driver’s license
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field is required.
2. MBA in Finance preferred
3. Position requires experienced financial leader with five to eight years in financial analysis and reporting.
4. Requires three to five years of supervisory experience, preferably in a manufacturing industry.
