Experienced HR Manager
Position: Manager of Human ResourcesReports To: Vice President of Human Resources Position Summary: Provide Human Resource management support to managers and associates at the Irwindale Corporate facility. Will be primarily responsible for the following functional areas: employee/labor relations; wage and salary administration; benefits, training, compliance; federal and other regulatory reporting requirements and other, specific responsibilities as assigned. This position develops and executes policies and procedures to meet both short-term and long-term corporate objectives. The ideal candidate is a quick study, utilizes a hands-on approach and is highly motivated to grow with the organization. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in HR Management or related field/ applicable experience required. Master's Degree preferred. 5-8 years of progressively responsible HR experience required, with at least the last four years in a management position. 5+ years HR experience in a manufacturing environment is helpful.Extensive knowledge of California State Law, Federal EEO Law, wage and hour law, and safety regulations required. Ability to objectively and effectively coach employees and management through complex issues.Proven ability to make recommendations and use sound business judgment in resolving issues consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures and regulations established by company and required by law.Must be results driven & lead by example. Hands-on management approach combined with ability to motivate and inspire others. Instill an entrepreneurial spirit in others and a strong accountability for results.Must be flexible, have high energy, be able to work independently on complex assignments and manage multiple tasks with competing priorities where short deadlines are the norm.Ability to influence and implement change across departmental boundaries. Ironclad integrity; must be impeccably honest, trustworthy and discreet regarding confidentiality issues.Exceptional communication skills; strong negotiator; effectively utilizes techniques to sell, influence, and gain support for recommended programs. Play a key role in the company-wide process of continuous improvement. Excellent problem-solving, data collection and analytical skills. General computer skills (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet) Food processing experience is preferred. Bilingual English/ Spanish language skills are a plus. HR Certification- PHR or SPHR preferred. Travel Required (15%) Responsibilities: Exercises general supervision over all company benefit programs and services including the 401k plan. Motivate, coach and retain an effective team of human resource professionals. Responsible for communications in the form of the company newsletter, LettuceTalk, all associate announcements, Quarterly Communication Meetings, bulletins and other forms of company-wide communications. Utilize both internal and external sources to create an ongoing system to benchmark industry-wide standards for “best practices” then lead the organization to narrow any gaps. Assist managers and supervisors with counseling, disciplining and complaint handling of employee relations issues. Manage and conduct investigations and recommend solutions to complaints and employee relation issues. Direct the interpretation and application of established human resources policies throughout the company. Create policies and procedures as well as associate handbook. Assure compliance with HR policies and procedures including performance management, wage and salary management, associate development, succession planning, benefits and safety. Partner with associates and management to communicate various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations. Ensure legal compliance with various governmental laws and regulations covering the areas of labor relations, OSHA, EEOC, safety, wage and hour, and workers' compensation. Review and evaluate performance improvement plans and work directly with managers in administering program. Monitor performance of those associates on performance plans and recommend further disciplinary and/or termination action in compliance with company policies and procedures as well as ensuring compliance with all federal and state requirements. Develop and maintain, as appropriate, the Company's affirmative action plan, diversity plan and file EEO-1 report; maintain records, reports and logs to conform to federal regulatory requirements. Participate in the design and maintenance of various employee reward and recognition programs. Design and deliver training programs. Manage company’s mandatory sexual harassment prevention training program per the State of California requirements. Conduct exit interviews, analyze data and make recommendations to senior management for corrective action and continuous improvement focused on associate retention. Ensure maintenance of all pertinent documents, records and information systems. Direct the preparation and maintenance of reports that are necessary to carry out functions of the department. Prepare periodic reports as necessary or requested. Direct various activities designed to promote and maintain a high level of employee morale. Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
