K12 Food Service Director
GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITY
Responsible for the oversight of a K-12 dining service operation, including attainment and maintenance of student customer satisfaction, as well as the achievement of client and financial objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Oversees hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising of the food service program and all unit staff, following company and client policies, while assuring maximum productivity consistent with company objectives and client guidance. Insures that scheduling is efficient and follows master schedule to insure budget compliance. Provides input into the appraisal of unit staff at a minimum of once per year.
2. Provides input and counsel to the Area Supervisor in the preparation of the annual operating budget and re-forecasts.
3. Oversees the development of all menus and planning for special events.
4. Assists the food service staff in establishing and teaching of standards of performance to include, but not limited to, the correct and safe method of operation of all food service equipment, the use of correct chemical formulae, tools, and procedures for all cleaning operations, correct food preparation and service methods, the use of standardized recipes, and effective use of time.
5. Spot checks the purchase of food, supplies, and equipment to insure that they meet menu and operational requirements, using established company procedures and specifications.
6. Insures that inventories of food, paper, and cleaning supplies are taken weekly (or as required) using valid current pricing.
7. Insures that unit managers use forecasted customer counts and projected portion usage and daily 'Production Control Record' and allocation of assignments for the preparation of food. Insures that unit manager meets with production staff daily to insure an understanding of the work scheduled and then supervises production of food, providing assistance when and where needed.
8. Routinely inspects the service of food, with an emphasis on good food attractively displayed and cheerfully offered in a clean, pleasant environment. Results reported to the Area Supervisor in writing after each visit.
9. Insures the cleanliness, orderliness, and maintenance of the Food Service Department through the unit manager.
10. Oversees and assists when needed in the preparation of the 'Weekly Operating Report'. Insures that the timeliness of financial reporting is strictly adhered to and reviews financial results taking appropriate action to insure the satisfaction of both the company and client.
11. Actively promotes client's facility and assists with the marketing efforts of the client wherever possible.
12. Takes a pro-active approach to food committee and student involvement and activity. Implements valid committee input and is responsive to all issues.
13. Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the food service industry by reading appropriate periodicals, maintaining close relationships with vendors and colleagues, and attending trade shows and seminars whenever possible.
14. Maintains close contact with the client liaison and other administrators to insure that dining services are meeting the expectations of the client. Provides all required and requested reports, and keeps the client liaison informed of all food service issues.
15. Keeps Area Supervisor well informed and constantly updated.
16. Performs other duties as directed.
