National Sales Manager-Retail

We offer a broad array of branded and private label products and service customers in the Retail, Foodservice, Asian, and Industrial trade classes from multiple production facilities located throughout the United States. We are currently seeking a National Sales Manager-Retail to manage product sales and achieve sales volume and profitability targets. This position reports to the Vice President of Retail Sales and has two Sales Managers as direct reports. The position will be located at the Mount Prospect (IL) Company Headquarters. Approximately 50% travel is expected. Relocation assistance will be provided.
Major responsibilities are as follows:
Manage sales team to achieve goals.Maintain and grow current business levels and secure new sales opportunities.Develop budget and manage expenditures and profitability. Develop, present, and implement customer plans that meet sales volume goals and profitability levels by product category and by customer.Communicate new products, services, and other developments to existing and potential accounts.Establish and maintain multiple levels of relationships within each customer in order to identify needs and opportunities as well as to provide selling solutions. Manage a network of Food Brokers Provide resale support to customers through advertising, promotion, and other trade spending activities while ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.Develop, communicate, and integrate plans for the execution of National Chain Account Programs.Interface with Sales, Customer Service, Marketing, Finance, Production, and R&D functions.Consult with management and provide timely information and reports on retail sales activities, issues, trends, market changes, competitive developments, and other critical matters.
The ideal candidate will be creative, aggressive, customer driven, and results oriented as well as possess demonstrated ability to manage, build, and enhance the overall value of the retail business unit. Five years of combined experience in food sales and broker management is required. Previous P & L experience preferred. Previous experience with specialty food providers preferred. Broad based business knowledge, strategic thinking, good judgment, and accurate risk assessment skills are highly desirable. Strong interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to negotiate agreements are essential. Must portray an image of professionalism, honesty, trust, and commitment to customer satisfaction. BA/BS Degree preferred. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
