ASSISTANT PARISH COUNCIL CLERK
TITLE: ASSISTANT PARISH COUNCIL CLERK
DESCRIPTION: Responsible for assisting with the daily responsibilities of the Clerk of the
Parish Council; to include (1) Maintaining the official records of the Council Office; (2) Assisting
with the preparation and distribution of meeting agendas, resolutions, ordinances, and publication
of documents; (3) Assist in formulating Minutes of the Parish Council and Committee meetings for
the official records; (4) Assist with maintaining the Parish Code of Ordinances and updating office
data logs; (5) Providing assistance to individual Council Members with special projects, drafting
ordinances and resolutions, and matters involving constituents, parish departments and other
government agencies; (6) Providing assistance to the Council Administrator when necessary; (7) Any
other duties as assigned by the Council Administrator and Clerk of the Council; and (8) Assuming
the responsibilities of the Clerk of the Council in her absence.
QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent shall possess at minimum: a two (2) year Associate
Degree or Paralegal Certificate, and a minimum two (2) years experience in Government, Public
Administration, Business Administration, Paralegal position, or similar field. Proficiency with data,
word processing and spreadsheet software applications; superior written and oral communication
skills; and adeptness at legal or document research is required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited four year university
in the field of administration, management, political science or similar field is desired; and
experience in legal drafting and record keeping in a parish / city council or similar office
environment.
EQUIPMENT: Computer, copy machine, fax machine, telephone, calculator, motor vehicle, and
any other specialty equipment as may be required.
POSITION MEETING REQUIREMENTS: This position requires attendance at meetings
of the Parish Council and Council Committees without additional compensation. Most meetings are
scheduled after normal business hours.
