General Statement of Responsibilities:

 

This position under the Director of Neighborhood Preservation will assist Norfolk property owners, builders, and developers with creative architectural and design solutions for substantial and minor enhancements to primarily single family, residential structures and commercial building facades. This position will also be responsible for providing design direction for new housing construction.

Essential Functions:

 

·  Develops conceptual and schematic design choices and implementation.

·  Supports the development of design and technical standards, policies and guidelines to ensure appropriate application, implementation and compatibility.

·  Provides professional advice in achieving architectural and urban approaches that support critical neighborhood revitalization policies, principles and practices.

·  Performs architectural design reviews as part of various permitting and zoning applications.

·  Ensures adherence to design standards.

·  Provides guidance on industry best practices and technical trends and services as a technical resource.

 

·  Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to present information clearly in writing and graphically.

·  Requires excellent skills with CAD software and other graphic software packages.

 

Education/Experience:

Requires a first professional level Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an Architectural program accredited by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and five years of experience in professional architectural work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be a Licensed Architect of the Commonwealth of Virginia (or currently licensed in another state and able to obtain a Virginia license within six months of appointment).

 

 

SALARY RANGE:  Excellent compensation & benefit package. 

Starting salary will be negotiated dependent on qualifications.
